DALLAS Belo Corp. said Thursday that upcoming Audit Bureau of Circulation figures will show that its flagship Dallas Morning News will take a circulation hit of about 13% on Sundays and 9% on other days, for the most recent six-month period.

It said circulation at its Providence (R.I.) Journal will be down about 1%, with The Press-Enterprise in Riverside, Calif., off 3% Sundays and 2% other days.

Belo Corp. also disclosed that it received a subpoena this week from local prosecutors regarding overstated circulation figures at the Morning News.

Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Robert W. Decherd said the company will cooperate fully with this week's subpoena from the Dallas County District Attorney for documents relating to the case.

The investigation focuses on whether there was any criminal wrongdoing related to the circulation statements, Rachel Horton, a spokeswoman for Dallas County District Attorney Bill Hill, told the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

Horton said the district attorney's office has been investigating the issue since the Belo Corp., disclosed the problem to stockholders in August 2004. She declined further comment, citing the ongoing investigation, according to the Star-Telegram.

The circulation overstatement is already under investigation by the Securities and Exchange Commission.

Couldn't happen to a better bunch of flaming liberals.

It's $50 to place a classified ad in that rag now. Gee - looks like the circulation doesn't justify the ad rates, does it?

They can't give away the San Jose Mercury News. They literally stand outside of stores and try to hand copies to people and no takers.

IANAL, but since the amount charged for newspaper advertising is based on circulation figures, falsifying those numbers could be considered committing fraud on their advertisers. They could be open to criminal, civil, and SEC penalties.

I cancelled my Dallas Morning News subscription one year ago and switched to the WSJ because the DMN had gone wobbly on gay marriage, etc. I told 'em so, too. Such a sad decline of a once proudly conservative paper. I know there are others like me who want no part of this liberal crud any longer.

I cancelled my subscription to the Enquirer (Cincinnati) last election season, because they have such a hard time pretending not to be screaching Code pink, ACLU loving, commie sympathizing, klintoon loving liberals.

Then, their parent company, Gannett, went out and bought up all the weekly community papers in our area, so I cancelled that one too.

They quit calling to ask me to take the paper back when I refused to stop telling them exactly what they could do with it. But they called a friend of mine who only gets Sunday delivery and offerred 6 months free daily paper as a trial. That smacks of desperation if you ask me.

Just today I received a piece of snail mail from the DMN offering me a subscription and a prepaid envelope to send in my payment. I removed the part of the bill that contained my address and sent in the remaining part with a handwritten note telling them that I do not want their left-wing newspaper. I used their prepaid envelope, of course.

I cancelled the Tennessean, another Gannet paper. They called the very day after I cancelled and offered me 50% off.

I refused. Now they keep sending me past due bills for a month of service after delivery was stopped. I guess they think they'll badger me into paying, even though I don't owe it.

Not gonna happen.

Great news BUMP!
I love the smell of dying liberal newspapers in the morning.

Or anytime, really.

The MSM keeps spewing their lies, and paying for it in lost subscriptions and lost viewers. They don't notice the correlation.

Air America can't interest anyone. Conservative radio is going strong. The liberals still don't get it.

Why let reality interfere with dogma?

I wonder if this has anything to do with Bill O'Rielly's war with that left wing latina columnist of the Dallas Morning News, who railed against anyone who wanted stricter border controls and then wildly accused the Fox host of complicity in murder.

You must have some strict standards - not that that's a bad thing.

The Inkwar was about the closest thing to a conservative paper I read - at least on the editorial page. The culture section had the usual gay agenda agitprop day after day.

Compared to the Plain Dealer and the Dayton Daily News (the Pravda of the midwest) the Inkwar was a bit of an oasis.

The MSM will never acknowledge circulation drops are due to liberal editorial and reporting policy, never ever.

It will ascribe the losses to the Internet, talk radio, demographics, President Bush, or anything and everything but itself.

"Belo Corp. also disclosed that it received a subpoena this week from local prosecutors regarding overstated circulation figures at the Morning News."

Same at The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel, folks.
One of the Milw areas *premiere* real estate outfits are in the process of suing the suckers right now claiming the inflated Urinal-Sent circ figures are tantamount to felony theft.
And y'know what, I agree with the Realtors.
It is outright theft.

"The circulation overstatement is already under investigation by the Securities and Exchange Commission."

Well it's about time!

The Liberal-Socialist quisling-braainstems running the nation's rags weren't content just *spinning* their stories.
Oh no-no-no.
They set out on an *organized* campaign of out-and-out lying & deceit.

As this despicable behavior has been evolving I was wondering (time & again) when the administration was going to fight back, using the powers at their disposal?

Hell's bells gents, it isn't that difficult.
Just copy the best when it comes to using governmental agencies against enemies, perceived or real.

William Jefferson Clinton, the illustrious Sink Emperor.
It's as simple as that.

Next, academia.

...infesting our public institutions.

Send a note to their ceo and board with a real simple message. "Stop this illegal dunning for a service I cancelled. Or I will turn you into the SEC for fraud."
