Woman accused of lying in I-696 rape claim
4/22/2005, 7:52 a.m. ET
The Associated Press

FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. (AP) — A 24-year-old Macomb County woman has been charged with filing a false police report for reporting that she was raped after getting a flat tire on Interstate 696 in suburban Detroit.

Sabrina Zerzycki of Clinton Township was released on a $10,000 personal bond Thursday after being arraigned before 47th District Judge James Brady, The Detroit News, Detroit Free Press and The Daily Oakland Press of Pontiac reported.

Shortly after Zerzycki's report, police warned motorists to be wary of accepting help from strangers. Instead, they urged people to remain in their cars and call 911 or a tow truck for help.

The charge is a felony punishable by up to four years in prison and a $2,000 fine.

Zerzycki has a preliminary examination on May 9. She left the court without comment, The Daily Oakland Press reported.

"Who knows why she did it for sure," state police Detective Sgt. David Robertson said Thursday. "I called her this morning and told her I needed her to come in and she turned herself in at around noon. She was very cooperative, but obviously scared, upset and remorseful."

Police say Zerzycki told them on April 6 that she got a flat tire driving east about 1 a.m. on I-696. She said a man changed the flat, then raped her in her car.

She later admitted it did not happen, police say.

She ought to be drawn and quartered for that. A man wrongly accused of rape (like me) can have his whole life destroyed because of the words of some scornful woman. I have always said that if a man is falsely accused of rape, then the accuser should be prosecuted in the same manner as the accused. Life in prison would be a starting point. Seems harsh until it happens to you.

Did she falsely accuse someone? I dont think so, I think she made the whole thing up and just left it as some unknown assailant. I actually think it was some perverse fantasy of hers. I dont know how common this knowledge is, but a lot of women have rape fantasies, maybe this was some way of trying to live out heres...

Oh, and I'm sorry to hear about the false accusation against you. I have told my son many times that things like that can happen, and he has to be VERY careful.

When the police have a crime to solve they question all sorts of people. In a way what she did was worse than falsely accuse someone. She left it to the police to solve a crime that didn't exist, putting every man unlucky enough to fall under suspicion at risk.

If anyone knowlingly submits a false claim to a crime, they should receive the punishment for committing the crime.

Women can destroy men with an accusation like this even if the man is not found guilty.

Oh, I agree! This woman should be punished for sure. Had she accuses a specific person, not only should she be punished, but the wrongfully accused should sue in civil court and she should be made to pay $$$ for many years.

there was a fruitcake in madison, wi a while back with the last name of 'seiler' I think...

she made up this elaborate story about being abducted and held captive in a nature area...

she even had given a description from which a composite drawing was made that was broadcast by the tv stations in town here...

it was only found out that she made the whole thing up when people had seen her repeatedly being alone and unaccompanied in the preserve...

people like that are way, way out there!

A friend of mine was accused of rape in high-school. The typical jealous girl thing. It did take a couple weeks to clear him but people still talked for a good while. The accusing girl, of course, told a friend what she was up to. That girl told her parents and the parents made her tell the police the truth.

When I was in college, I heard stories like this all the time. Jilted girl, rape accusation. Girl gets drunk, acts a fool, feels bad the next day, rape accusation.

I would think that women who really have been raped would want to kick the crap out of these liars.

The "cry wolf" syndrome effects everybody involved, from actual rape victims to the detectives who investigate these crimes. Law enforcers have to take every allegation of rape seriously, but they must know that false accusations happen frequently. Those who ARE raped are under a cloud of suspicion until their allegations are supported by the facts.

Try dealing with an angry PC DA thats complicates your life for years afterward, then you can see the effects of a witch hunt.

Sorry, but this is true. Some women, probably more than you think, have "rape" fantasies. By rape, I dont neccessarily mean RAPE, I mean quasi-consensual sex fantasies. Its not something I made up, its out there.
