Let's not be like them. The media will give this saturation coverage, and probably tie it into Tom DeLay's "threatening" of judges, and parade her around as an example of how poor helpless liberals are under assault by right-wing thugs for daring to "speak truth to power."
Compare this to the media blackouts, chuckles and titters and sneering about how conservatives can't take what they dish out that results when people like Coulter, Horowitz and Kristol are hit with pies and salad dressing by members of the "tolerant" left.

I understand why he did it, but I really don't want our side doing that kind of stuff. I want to be able to criticize the other side. Let's not be like them.Jane Fonda should have been tried and convicted as a traitor. Spitting on her is a mild rebuke for what she did. A little spittle consitutes an appropriate and warranted response.
I don't know what "side" you are talking about, but many Americans, regardless of political party, despise her. The Holzers' book, "Aid and Comfort," makes a detailed and compelling case that Fonda should be in jail rather than on an obscene book tour making money and revising history.
I applaud Mr. Smith for his restraint and pithy response. I would hazard a guess that he is a Vietnam vet, like myself. Your tut-tut response doesn't sit well with me. Fonda deserves to be shunned and reviled for her actions along with her words. It is not a matter of civil discourse.

Prove to me that it was OUR side. I smell a publicity stunt.
OPINION
She isn't selling books like she needs to and needs to promote a movie. A big bad man spitting at her will get her press releases and an interview here and there in hopes of drawing out more people to the next signing.
IF this man spat in her face, why? Was he just a jerk? Probably. Was he a VET? If he was, the media would have made that the lead story as if every member of the MIL were evil.
I don't know, that is just my opinion that it was staged.

How do you know the man was on "our side"? The article doesn't say if he was a liberal or a conservative. Most any Viet Nam vet might spit on her for what she did. Hell, he was probably spit on when he came home from Nam. I wouldn't do that but then I wasn't in Viet Nam when the traitor did her thing.

True. For some reason, though, I think spitting has more poetic force than throwing a pie at somebody. Maybe because spitting has been a symbolic ritual for centuries; pie-throwing not.
