My Problem With Conservatives (A wafer-thin zot for Mr. Creosote)
vanity post
Posted on 04/14/2005 3:24:21 PM PDT by creosote
Boy, is this gutsy, huh.
Conservatism is a paranoid, fearful personal philosophy and embracing it is a sign of emotional weakness. By its very definition, conservatism is opposed to progress. Conservatives believe we ought to "conserve" existing institutions and social norms, speaking from a positions which is always on the verge of being "led astray," and reflecting with an imperfect memory on the topics of fictional "Greatest Generations" and "Golden Ages." Nothing that sets itself against progress can claim to be on the side of good. Accordingly, conservatives, however nice they might otherwise be, for turning their energies against a better world because they cannot master their fear.

Not only are you stupid, but you are also, no doubt, ugly. I would venture to say that you are so ugly, both in mind, soul and outward appearance as to be revolting to the sight. Gut-wrenching, barf-bag filling, hang-a-pork-chop-around-your-neck-to-get-the-dog-to-play-with-you ugly. Mind-numbingly ugly. So ugly that you could look the medusa square in the eye and turn HER into stone. Naw, I bet you're even uglier than that. So ugly that in comparison to your visage, a bucket-full of penguine crap would be regarded as an artful masterpiece. Monumentally ugly. So ugly that If I had to look directly at you, my autonomic reflexes would cause me to soil my drawers. Worse - if your dead, decrepid corpse was fed into a tree-chipper, the chipper would malfunction and barf out tree-chipper teeth. Black-holes would refuse to alow you past their event-horizon for fear of contamination. THAT's how UGLY you are.

To: creosote
Creosote: I have my own complaints about conservatism, and I agree with you on some of your points. But conservatives are not against progress, and often times what is called progress is not. Liberals tend to try and fix things that aren't broken, and the end result is that they GET broken. Sometimes they do scoff at new ideas, but that's only because they are not proven ideas. For instance, liberals like to throw money at the schools, claiming underfunding is the problem. It may be a problem, but it doesn't prevent kids from learning. Conservatives want teachers and kids to meet certain standards. Liberals are more concerned with multiculturalism and sex ed than they are academics.
Conservatives, and rightly so, do want a return to traditional values. Liberals love traditions, as long as they aren't our traditions. We used to have decent schools, till liberals took them over. Liberals, when trying to fix something, go overboard and throw out the baby with the bathwater. Progress is good, but the kind of progress you are talking about is an overhaul of a system and culture that didn't need a major overhaul. Only a few changes. So while liberals had and have some good progressive ideas, they are lacking in the common sense department.

Liberals love jousting straw man arguments. The "Definition" of conservative is just one of them.
Stick around, found out what we value, then feel free to critique.
