Moab, Utah
Associated Press An aerial photograph shows the pile of radioactive waste along the Colorado River in Moab, Utah, that will be moved to another Utah site about 30 miles from the river.
The waste will be dug up, then shipped by rail and buried on a desolate expanse of open range about 30 miles from the river. Planning will begin immediately, but the task is so immense that the first scoop probably won't be removed until 2007.

I was expecting a Ted Kennedy thread.

Last summer on the way to my folks place in Colorado, my family stopped in Moab about 4 days to tour Canyonlands, it is a really beautiful area. When we got to Colorado my mom said we were all glowing, now we know why.

I was expecting a Ted Kennedy thread. I was actually expecting a human events story about Jerrold Nadler...or her highness hillary.

At one point, groundwater contaminated by the waste was leaking into the river at an estimated 28,000 gallons a day, although recent Energy Department cleanup efforts slowed the contamination to 15,000 gallons a day. The pollution is diluted over the river's meandering... Thbey can't move that pile. It's what gives Coors beer its Rocky Mountain-clean flavor.

It figures that "commie bob" Filner wants to push the project at an unsafe pace. An accident borne of haste would be far more damaging than the status quo.

They always call it Colorado Kool-Aid in Texas.
If someone offers you Coors, they always say, "why don't you hold that beer". (Is this a good bad joke?)
