Family's two pit bulls kill Hamtramck girl, 6

HAMTRAMCK, Mich. (AP) Two pit bulls attacked and killed their owners' 6-year-old girl in the backyard of a home near Detroit, state police say.
Cassidy Jeter was killed Monday morning, said state police Lt. Harold Love.
The girl had known the pit bulls since they were puppies, The Detroit News said.
Cassidy and a younger child were walking down an alley next to the home about 9 a.m. when the dogs attacked, Love said. The family recently moved out of a home around the corner, and the dogs were still staying at that house. The alley separates the two homes.
"For some reason the dogs were loose, and one of them attacked the girl," Love said.
The other dog apparently joined the attack. The younger child climbed a fence to get away, and the girl's mother tried to save her daughter.
"The mother tried to beat the dogs off the girl with a 2-by-4," Love said. "She was screaming for help from the neighbors."
The girl was dead at the scene. Police shot the dogs to death.
Police in the Detroit enclave of Hamtramck asked state troopers to investigate because a person died and its officers used their weapons.

If you want to kill or savagely maul something, a Pit Bull is an appropriate tool. Otherwise, why have one?
Time to sue the cops for killing the cute cuddly pitbulls. When will people learn. Pitbulls are useless and dangerous.

All right, yet another media hype story about the dangerous pit bull...
Police shot the dogs to death.
Why? The dogs were just doing what they were bred to do. Maybe more severe punishment for people who feel the need to own these things would help.
In all fairness, pets in general are not "useful" in any kind of utilitarian sense. That being said, after work today, I'm taking my Golden Retriever for a swim. Him not me.
Oh, no, no - it's the owners, not the dogs. /s
Why on Earth would someone own one of these dogs? Why on Earth would someone own these dogs with children in the picture? Sadly we see this story repeated on a regular basis.
"All right, yet another media hype story about the dangerous pit bull..."
A little girl is dead because two, not one feaky lone one, TWO vicious dog attacked her and killed her. What part of this story is "hype" to you?
Maybe, just maybe, we have "yet anothe media hype story" because the freaking dogs keep killing people.

The mauling death of an innocent child by a four legged land shark is hardly media hype.

5 years ago I would have said the dog was abused. Now this type story repeats almost daily. Pit bulls do not belong among people.

~sigh~
My black lab doesn't like to get his feet wet...
Maybe, just maybe, you missed the sarcasm....
When are people gonna learn.
Ambrose is going to be p!ssed at you for posting this.
It would be like posting a story about job losses or a plant closing without giving Wille Green first opportunity.

I had a crazy encounter with a pit bull in my younger years. The guy i was with owned a beautiful pitbull i took care of him since he was a puppy.. One day a friend of his came over and wanted to see him i didnt see a problem in allowing it so i let the male and female both out..
She reached down to pet the female and the male GOT TICKED OFF... and attacked the lady by the back of her head. he was holding on for dear life. I totally flipped, i begged the dog was trying to pry his jaws open nothing worked. this happened in the kitchen my first thought was to grab a knife and stab the dog.. Bad idea.. So i ran upstairs grabbed the gun came down started shooting the dog.
Never handling a gun before i started to pull trigger i could hear it shoot, see it shoot, but the dog didnt seem to cringe as each bullet hit him. So in stupidty i turned the gun towards my face and shot my pinky finger . DUH lol
well no bullets left Dog wasnt letting go i ran outside to scream for help.... When i came back in the dog was walking slowly outside with a bullet to his head :(.....
Amublance arrived the girl needed 272 stitches in her head....They asked me in the hospital who i was trying to shoot i said the dog of course.. They said we found gun powder on this ladies neck.. OMG i was that close from accidnetally killing her whew..my pinky turned out to be ok i shot it thru the joint. Thank The Lord.. I was a hero in the local paper... Needless to say the bf was very upset i killed his dog....
Sorry, I didn't make my sarcasm clear. I believe the Bible also teaches that if someone knowingly owns a dangerous animal and it kills someone, they are also to be put to death. I certainly wasn't defending the mutts.
Firstly, the term pitbull is undeservedly applied too broadly--either the American Staffordshire, English Staffordshire, Bull Terrier, Dogo Argentine, American Bulldog, etc., etc. None of these dogs are specifically bad actors; and all are recognized breeds of the American Kennel Club. Poperly socialized with other pets, they are great companions and the most loyal animal you would ever want--they will defend your home with their life! However, the "pitbull" is not an AKC-recognized breed. It is usually a product of vicious backyard breeding that uses the law of natural selection to match a particular aggressive trait to another aggressive trait to fight in the pit--so what would you expect?
I had a neighbor that picked up one of a pitt bull mix for their family, which included two young children. The dog hated men and even as a puppy would bite and attack men. They thought it was funny. Finally, the dog ended up getting hit by a car and died. The family was sad, but for their safety, I think in the end it was the best thing that could have happened.
Kind of like 'reformed' child molesters. Who wants to take a chance with their kids?
This particular pitbull was very mistreated and he used to fight him . :( would beat him to make him tough so thats why he flipped out.. he was a brilliant beautiful dog. He had a certain cooing sound he would make it was so precious. Like he was trying to talk to me..
Good GOD! What a story!
Not for people who live in a neighborhood with other people or within 50 miles of other people. Two weeks ago one attacked a man and his wife riding by on a motorcycle. The man managed to lay down the bike with the dog clenched around his ankle and get the dog onto it's back and choke it to death. The man was chewed up pretty badly and his wife was bitten a few times too. This happened in Decatur Alabama. I looked for the story on line but never found it.
I no longer believe the dogs are safe at all.

Still waiting for all of the Pit lovers who say that it's ok as long as you're a responsible owner.
When I ask if they are willing to face a murder charge if one of their little cuties digs under a fence and kills someone, I never get a "yes".
Huh? By themselves?
For some reason the dogs were loose Could the reason be that nobody was watching them?
well, I have never understood why people keep repeating the tired, worn out mantra that pitbulls are loyal, loving animals. Just a short cursory review of their history finds that it dates back to ancient Rome and beyond and that they were bred specifically for fighting and other "blood sports". It is in their nature. It is instinct for them to attack and kill.
"Maybe, just maybe, you missed the sarcasm...."
Jeez, I hate it when I do that. My apologies.
No, first they eliminated the dogs. Then, they need to file murder or involuntary manslaughter charges on the owner, and throw their sorry asses in jail.
Hey, that's a familiar town name. Someone should investigate the effect of the five-times-daily Muslim "call to prayer" on pit bulls (and dogs in general). Might make an interesting lawsuit...
I would be willing to. These owners were obviously ignorant (to be nice). I would virtually stake my life that this was an innner city poor family. They moved and left there dogs at the old house - what does that say about their responsibility? Any dog can be trained and bred to be violent. Further, this "news" post doesn't even tell the exact breed of the dog. This story doesn't surprise me, but it is not because pitbulls are so violent - it is because they are violent in the hands of morons and thugs.
This is exactly what I'm talking about, I'm not saying the death of the girl, which is a tragedy, is the hype part. If this was a pair of Rottweilers, Dobermans, Chows, German Shepherd, etc. etc. this story would never have been posted here, and all the dogs are equally dangerous if not more so as they all outweigh a pure-bred APBT, often these stories don't even confirm the actual breed of the dog that did it.
I've owned and been around APBTs my life, they are brilliant, loyal dogs who are as loving and gentle as any other breed when raised properly. The problem is not the dog, it's the owner.
They left out the part about the dogs arriving on the scene in their SUV.
Bump for later.
Maybe, just maybe, you missed the sarcasm....
I missed it too!
Google. I always forget to use Google. Thanks.
Police in the Detroit enclave of Hamtramck asked state troopers to investigate because a person died and its officers used their weapons.
And now what?
The officers will be charged with animal cruelty and suspended? /sarcasm
Why anyone would own a dog originally bred specifically for fighting is beyond me. Especially with young children in the house. I suppose it's too much to expect other pit bull owners to learn from this.
Our late, departed Golden Retriever, Prior Lake Jake, liked nothing better than ice out day in Minnesota. He'd plunge right in no matter how cold the water was.
