Al Gore and Joel Hyatt Unveil "Current"
Yahoo News ^ | Apr 4, 2005 | PRNewswire

Offering a glimpse of the independent network first announced at last year's National Cable & Telecommunications Association convention, former Vice President Al Gore and entrepreneur Joel Hyatt, joined by executives and on-air talent, revealed this morning that the name of the new venture, formerly known as INdTV, will be Current. The unveiling of the much-anticipated network's positioning, logo and prototype programming reel took place at a press conference in Current's San Francisco headquarters during NCTA '05.

"The first national network created by, for and with an 18-34 year-old audience, Current will offer 24 hours of programming in a unique, short-form content format when it premieres August 1."

Joel and Al are between 18-34 years old?!? It hasn't even started yet and they're already lying to us!

Al Gore & brainchild don't belong in the same paragraph, let alone sentence.

"Current will invite audiences to move beyond their roles as viewers to become active collaborators, encouraging them to help shape the network's content and fulfill its mission -- to serve as a TV platform where the voices of young adults can be heard."

Great! Get ready to FREEP an entire network!

"entrepreneur Joel Hyatt"?

Isn't he a trial lawyer?
I guess the term "entrepreneur" has been expanded a little.

"The first national network created by, for and with an 18-34 year-old audience, Current will offer 24 hours of programming in a unique, short-form content format when it premieres August 1."

When MTV first aired, it was aimed at 18-34. Now it is aimed squarely at 12-18, with content only people ages 18-34 can legally perform.

"Until now, the notion of viewer participation has been limited to sending a tape to 'America's Funniest Home Videos,' calling an interview show, taking part in an instant poll, or voting someone off an island," added Gore. "We're creating a powerful new brand of television that doesn't treat audiences as merely viewers, but as collaborators."

Al must not have heard of this thing, "American Idol," where 30 million people each week vote to keep their favorites from being eliminated from the show. It's kind of popular but, I understand, Al doesn't probably know much about television.

Based on that, it looks to be a "younger, hipper" version of Bravo with a schedule entirely composed of independant content. Independant meaning "starving 'artists' that Al Gore and Hyatt didnt have to pay very much to get the broadcast rights to."

Hooray for Commieworld!

Oh, I hope it's as good as the Free Speech channel. That is my comedy network, although it's not intended to be that way.

Whenever I'm feeling down, I just tune in FSTV on my satellite, and LMAO at all the earnest, hairy, feminist GLBT rantings. Their documentaries are pointless and hilarious. Y'all shouldn't knock this liberal twit network till you see it. I'm willing to bet that any number of drinking games could come from it...
