Still, it's sad to me to see so many people ready to dump the GOP over something like this.

There's a difference between "so many people" on FR and "so many people" in the country as a whole or even the registered Republicans of the country as a whole (only a microscopic fraction of which have even read FR). That's often lost sight of.

It's not nearly the issue across the country as a whole as it was on FR.

For the same reason abortion never actually becomes the central issue of any political campaign though people keep expecting it too. There are far less people who are really really passionate about the issue one way or another (on BOTH sides) than those people really passionate about the issue like to believe.

D = RT

They are indeed related. I agree the article is stupid, but a light year is a measure of time.
No, a light-year is the distance that light travels in one year, approximately 9.46 trillion (9.46 × 10^12) kilometers or 5.88 trillion (5.88 × 10^12) miles. (From dictionary.com)

A light year COULD be a measure of time if you're only talking about one year, in which case it's pointless and you should just say "one year."

What me and others say about the Bush brothers is something they should listen closely to, if for no other reason than to prevent the pro-life community from splintering. What we are trying to do here is to force them to be pro-life - if they had political sense they would keep to GOP from splitting in two as happened during the previous Bush administration.

I do no think I can vote for someone who thinks the way to solve this is through the courts, when the courts are calling for murder. I will have to see exactly what the alternative is in 2008 before I know what I will do.

I called them traitors because this is a crucial issue that there is NO ROOM FOR COMPROMISE when it means someone's death. I am also in favor of tax cuts, concealed carry, etc. but I realise I will have to accept compromises on these things.

Bush campaigned as the major pro-life candidate. Why didn't he mention to us that he would not do his duty and save innocent disabled civilians that nobody wants anymore?!

If you will read my profile here I mention that I spend 5 days driving to Iowa to work on Bush's re-election without being paid one cent. I only say this to defend my conservative credentials, otherwise I don't want your admiration.

I disagree with you in your 'traitor assessment'..Work to correct the laws..

May God comfort those who mourn. May Terri rest in God's arms.

Well I did. I don't know how I can prove it to you. Anyways I would just ask that you don't presume someone is a troll because they say something that you don't like. If I were to say that killing Terri is good and "mercy" killing and abortion are praiseworthy than you would be perfectly justified.

Nor does he plan on continuing in a political future. Cant' blame him either. Who needs all the hate directed towards them.

The Bushes won't feel any impact from me.
I realize some militants on this board wanted George and Jeb to send in the 101st Airborne. But I personally thank the Bushes for paying attention to the situation and for working to help resolve it.
And in the meantime please, stop writing off Jeb Bush. If he decided to run, he's the best chance we've got to beat Hiliary. This is politics, you don't always get what you want. But like I told my sister, when you don't vote, it IS a vote for gay marriage and abortion. Please don't abandon the Republican Party.
Let's work together to change the law...

Jeb knew it was time to fold here.

If he wasn't going to overrule the obviously-expected Greer response to his press conference, why did he have it? He could have gone in discretely with a DCF agent and had Terri receiving hydration before Greer could react (note that Greer's order at that time forbid Michael from allowing Terri hydration, but did not say DCF couldn't provide hydration over Michael's objections). His behavior there made no sense unless he was more interested in saying he 'tried' than he was in getting results.

"this whole thing will be forgotten as a political issue by November 2006... and won't have the slightest political impact on any campaign anywhere."

My post only referred to Jeb Bush's political career. Since he may well leave politics, we may never know which of us is right. I think that this case has touched many people so deeply that they will never forget it.

Your response opens this up to include affecting "any campaign anywhere," and I think you are probably wrong about that, too. Why wouldn't the left use Terri's case against the right in '06? It is a fine wedge issue. Just read the FR forums.

Democrats can claim that Terri’s case “proves” that Republicans are led by religious zealots who won’t even let people die in peace. They can claim that her case demonstrates the hypocrisy of Republicans, who will bleat endlessly about the sanctity of marriage while they vote to overrule a husband’s attempts to follow his dying wife’s requests. The polls are on their side, everyone knows at least something about the case -- it is tailor-made to become a political issue. A string of made-for-TV movies about Terri made by the Hollywood left should come out within the next couple of years, and who do you think will be the bad guys in those movies? The spin has barely begun. We will soon hear, “Next, those rabid right-wing religious nuts won’t let anyone pull the plug on someone dying of terminal cancer. They just want to prolong suffering.” The basic truth of the matter, that for many on the right this was about preserving a valuable life, will be drowned out. Since we failed, it will eventually look as though we never really tried or cared. Unless the polls turn around, whenever the subject of Terri is raised, Republicans will tend to be defensive. Of course the Democrats will use it.

I hope I am wrong about this. We’ll see.

Both Bushs did everything they could to help Terri and both are committed pro-lifers. You don't say what they could have done legally.
