This "All Terri All The Time" is an emotional outlet that needs to stay on the Terri threads and not be brought into other threads on FR, IMO.

An opinion to which you are entitled, however misinformed it may be.

But there's a very direct relevance here: This pope has made the crusade against the Culture of Death the hallmark of his papacy, not just in his words but in his example. Hence, he refuses to follow the advice of the NYTimes crowd and step down on account of his obviously severe medical problems. This has enraged some people, and these people are generally the "compassionate" types who want to see Terri Schiavo starved and wish the Catholic Church would just butt out of it.

Nope you are wrong. I want Terri to have the opportunity to live and hate the fact that so many say that her life has no worth. From what I see, Greer has ignored important evidence. On the other hand, I have mixed emotions about the courts interfering with the decisions of spouse and parents in these matters. It can lead to abuses and unintended negative consequences that many are unwilling to consider. Am I and other conservatives like me, agents of the culture of death? Please.

Per a Florida Court Staffer on the Michael Savage show...

Judge GREER is legally blind and cannot read his legal briefs given him. He can only make rulings based on what he HEARS from the Lawyers in his courtroom, not sees in writing.

"Misinformed"

Show me something that reads the Pope has a feeding tube about to be pulled.

I'm not Catholic but there's just something about the position of the Pope. I don't know if all Protestants would agree with me but I've just always thought of him in a fond way. We don't see the same theologically but it's the Pope, something ingrained in you just puts him, not on a pedastal but sort of just a step up. And I've always personally just liked this one. Seemed somewhat more human, more personable than the other Popes in my lifetime. I would join with those in prayers for his health

"his age?? Please tell me that my 79-yr-old father who works out every day (and is healthier than I am) has more than 3 years left!"

Your father isn't the Pope, who's been shot, had a tracheotomy and pneumonia.

Being a non catholic, I have noticed the Vatican is very secretive. Is that why no ones talking? Last time he was in the hospital, it was on the news all day. Perhaps the media just sucks?

I agree. There are well over a dozen threads on Terri today. No reason to bring the arguement to a thread on the pope.

Next, the "all Terri all the time" crowd will be linking her fate to Hogzilla on that thread.

Nothing I said was a defense of euthanasia nor did I defend slavery. And you know that. I said that there are conservatives that are people of good will that came out in favor of the South and there are people of good will that are reluctant to have court interference in the Schiavo case. It is wrong to paint with such a broad brush. Your emotion is distorting your reason.

It must be comforting to be so consistently irrational. But at least you don't have to do any mental heavy lifting. The pontiff is opposed to the death penalty for murderers. The death penalty clearly reflects the value that our society places on life. Does that make the pope an agent of the culture of death?

I am a Catholic and will say this about the "position" of Pope. This "position" was not like any post the world has known. Kings, queens, monarchs, etc. has all descended from a need by those affected as a need to have a leader. All those posts were man-made. The Pope was created by Jesus Christ and bestowed upon Peter, thus making him the first Pope. All Popes since then have been the successor of Peter and the job description hasn't changed much since it was written by Jesus all those centuries ago. It is the only "position" so created.

BTW, I was fortunate to have seen Pope John Paul II in New Orleans in 1987. The power he has must be strong. That day started hot and temps in the 100+ range. Then a storm rolled through and drenched the crowd. We saw his helicopter land and later saw him in his vehicle. It was still raining hard as he made his way to the altar. The closer he got the less it rained until, and you won't believe this, he took the stairs leading up to the altar. The rain STOPPED as if on cue. Unbelievable! the evening turned out rather nicely. Anyone that was there can verify this. If any Freepers was there, they can back me on this.
Yes, this Pope is special and will be missed when he is gone. God bless him.
