In Rochester, NY there are schools being closed for lack of funding. Meanwhile, the city just purchased a $30Million Fast Ferry. The idea is that tourist dollars from Canadian visitors will revive the city. It's a ridiculous idea. The same day the city bought the boat (2/28/2005) they also announced the school closings. The city is currently being run by a Racist Black Democrat Mayor and City Council. They do not recognize the irony of the Schools versus Boat decisions. They blame the School District administration.
Here's an interesting site -- from the U.K., oddly enough -- which provides a quick summary of the decline of Detroit. It includes a pictogram showing the city's population and racial breakdown by decade, beginning in 1900. Rapid growth as the automobile industry was born, a slow centercity decline after 1950 as the suburbs boomed, and then utter collapse. Meanwhile -- whether as cause or effect -- it went from an almost all white city to an almost all black one.

the spirit of coleman young lives on!!!!!!!!! remember, the city is falling apart because of the " hostile white suburbanites ". if you throw the attempted slave reparations act, the black enterprise zone, the outrageous taxes, and the fact that it is almost impossible to locate a business there, you have your recipe for disaster. Unless the attitude of the current residents changes, there is no hope. It was big news yesterday that the major crimes commited in detroit is at it,s lowest since 1963. However, there are less than half as many people living there now then there was in 1963. If the people of detroit do not throw out the current regime ( all of them ) and cutback on unneccecary services, and start to concentrate on the neighborhoods, then they are only reaping what they have sown.

Hehe no, you missed that point. What he's saying is that the US government cares about white people, so it would come in and save them if a white town ended up like this. Since our RepubliNazi government doesn't care about blacks, it has let the city go to ruin. He completely ignores the fact that it's not the job of the federal government to go around fixing up cities that have fallen into ruin.
I haven't been back there since the big snow storms in like 98. The whole place was shut down because they couldn't even get the streets plowed! It was pure chaos.
I hope I never have to go back there again. It is depressing as heck!

They got their union in Norma Rae's town but the southern textile mills are gone now, aren't they?
Went into Detroit the other day, and took a wrong turn and ended-up right downtown. Looked like a war zone, almost identical to the Detroit shown in the movie - Robocop.
There was also a race riot in Detroit in 1943 that was almost as bad, but it seems that the city bounced back from that one.
People who earn Union wages simply do not want to live in crime ridden, dilapidated neighborhoods. They purchase property in the suburbs where the value of their investment is not jeopardized by a crack house across the street. The Union has nothing to do with the demise of Detroit.
The demise of Detroit is because of a lack of law and order. The night before halloween (devils night) used to be shown on tv as a night of rampant vandalism and arson fires blotting out city blocks. When people live in fear for their lives, they move away.
Lawlessness in Detroit is the heart of the problem. Most Union workers are law abiding citizens so don't demean unions as the cause to the demise of Detroit. Blame city hall.
Hold on to your butts! Eminem lives near 31 Mile Rd. and Dequindre. If they let a neutron bomb go on 8 Mile, he'd have a real good head start on getting the hell out of Dodge!
