Now you've done it. You are praising The Valley, home of Duvall county where Landslide Lyndon got his start with the help of a few dead folks? Lordy Mercy.
"When you drive on two lane FM (farm to market) roads, that shoulder on the right that's the width of a lane IS a lane. When someone comes up behind you and acts like he wants to pass you, you're supposed to get over in that lane and let him pass. To not do so is considered rude, and not driving friendly. When you pass or get passed in this way, you're supposed to give a friendly "howdy neighbor" type wave."
Greatest bit of advice I have read so far!
Good idea. I'll dedicate some brain power to that. I might know someone around Denton or so. Just have to think on it. Most people I know are east of Frisco/Celina.
"I think 1/2 of Michigan followed you. The other half went to Florida's gulf coast."
I think it it was 1/3rd and 1/3rd, with what was left staying in Michigan. Some of them have left since then. My brother-in-law and brothers also moved to Texas. My in-laws also moved down here from Michigan, after a stay in Indiana.
One of my two brothers since left Texas, but not to go back to Michigan.
Dammit.
ONE beer. I owe you just one, even though I've owed it to you for at least 15 months.
Congrats, dude! Texas is God's Country. God-willin', I'll be writing one a these posts myself someday before I cash in my chips.
When I moved to West Texas from Los Angeles, it was bit of a culture shock. I couldn't understand why every driver coming towards me seemed to recognize me and wave. I thought they were signalling that a trooper was up ahead or something.
After awhile, I learned the cool way to wave. You just lift a single finger from the steering wheel to signal Howdy.
BTW, this practice is more common in West Texas than anywhere else and doesn't exist within major metropolitan areas. Pulling over onto the shoulder to let someone pass is common everywhere except on freeways.
Dang it..........since you only owe me one, I should spring for a six pack for you! lol
You'll wake up and it'll already be 100 degrees. Sometimes you'll get the feeling that the sun will never set it's so hot. You'll run from the air conditioned house to the car, from the car to the office, and back again. Then, there in North Dallas, you'll have many a night watching out for tornados. Left there after 5 years in Dallas, dont miss it. lol
I had a friend in West Texas who married a girl from California - on her first trip to Texas she kept noticing everyone and their "one finger" and questioned her husband asking what he was doing to tick everyone off!!! lol
That was a good reminder Cowboy..........believe it or not we had some single lane bridges in PA and I would always wave in "thank you" when someone stopped to let me pass - some actually began to wave back! lol
It's supposed to be your index finger. Using your middle finger apparently is a gang sign, or so I'm told. Texans aren't very good at questioning those that died of gunshot wounds.
Ok. I'll do the same.
Oh, another thing about driving. When you approach a traffic light and it turns from green to yellow, that's the signal to gun it and clear the intersection. But beware of transplants who mistakenly think that a yellow light means to slow down and come to a stop. Having one of those benighted souls in front of you can cause a collision!
Which cities would those be? Do you still mean Virginia?
P.S. Thanks for all your help!
Ask Gabz - she's a newbie to Virginia, but you don't get much more rural than where she is........and I think she loves it.......
