Welcome to Texas!

One suggestion: Exchange your CA license plates for TX ones as soon as possible. Otherwise, people here will look down on with you with such great pity.

Welcome to a state where every statewide office is held by a Republican.

If only we could get them to start ACTING like Republicans...

Nah, we don't "practice" common courtesy down here...........we've pretty much got it licked! lol

But yes, you will hear many children saying Sir and Mam here...........in fact, you hear a lot of adults using those terms as well -

A little Texas wisdom you might need in these here parts:

A COWBOY'S GUIDE TO LIFE

"Don't squat with your spurs on.

Don't interfere with something that ain't botherin' you none.

Timing has a lot to do with the outcome of a rain dance.

The easiest way to eat crow is while it's still warm.
The colder it gets, the harder it is to swaller.

If you find yourself in a hole, the first thing to do is stop diggin'.

If it don't seem like it's worth the effort, it probably ain't.

It don't take a genius to spot a goat in a flock of sheep.

The biggest troublemaker you'll probably ever have to deal with watches you shave his face in the mirror every morning.

Never ask a barber if you need a haircut.

If you get to thinkin' you're a person of some influence, try orderin' somebody else's dog around.

Don't worry about bitin' off more'n you can chew; your mouth is probably a whole lot bigger'n you think.

Always drink upstream from the herd.

Generally, you ain't learnin' nothing when your mouth's a-jawin'.

Tellin' a man to git lost and makin' him do it are two entirely different propositions.

If you're ridin' ahead of the herd, take a look back every now and then to make sure it's still there with ya.

Good judgment comes from experience, and a lotta that comes from bad judgment.

When you give a personal lesson in meanness to a critter or to a person, don't be surprised if they learn their lesson.

When you're throwin' your weight around, be ready to have it thrown around by somebody else.

Lettin' the cat outta the bag is a whole lot easier than puttin' it back.

Always take a good look at what you're about to eat. It's not so important to know what it is, but it's sure crucial to know what it was.

The quickest way to double your money is to fold it over and put it back into your pocket.

Never miss a good chance to shut up."

Those are so good - lol - My former brother in law, ( aka a$$hole) had a really great father - a real cowboy - worked on a ranch all of his life - boots and hat always - very quiet man, rarely spoke, but when he did, we listened - I always think of him when I read something like your post -

Hey! School is going great except I am too damn busy to do much riding!

There is also a traffic law in Texas that says you can be ticketed for "impeding the flow of traffic" which also applies to just riding along in the left lane. The law you are talking about means that you either have to move over to another lane or slow down to 20 mph below the posted speed when passing a police vehicle on the side of the road. We have had a lot of officers injured or killed by drivers (usually drunk) being struck while assisting motorists or in the process of writing citations.

How is Mr. Tuffydoodle? I read on the Saddle Club thread where you were feeling under the weather lately. All my guys are doing great. Henkell has started on some turnout in the round pen withouth his bandage on! He is one happy horse right now. But, when I go to put the bandage back on, he gets mad!

I may be moving to another barn soon. I found one in Blue Ridge that has comparable facilities to Legacy, but is quite a bit cheaper. And, I may be able to set up shop as a trainer at the new place which I can't do at Legacy.

You will be within a short driving distance of multiple WalMarts. Just south of Allen at the Spring Creek exit off Central is a WalMart SuperCenter, grocery store and regular Walmart all in one. And just north of Allen in McKinney is a regular WalMart.

AND, Allen also has a Walmart Neighborhood store which is a regular grocery store. It is located on the corner of Exchange Pkwy and Angel Drive. I go by it almost every day and do a lot of shopping there.

We do have gangs here, but usually the agressive drivers are regular folks some with concealed carry, some without, who think they are Dale Earnheardt once they get behind the wheel of their cars.

Just stay in the rightmost lanes and let the idiots go on by.

Thanks WhyisaTexasgirlinPA. That is great advice. And remember that usually here in Texas if you see another driver making a gesture towards you, he is just waving and saying Hi, especially on the country roads. Perfect strangers will wave at each other out here.

We are a real friendly bunch here in Texas.

My first priority is to find a Bible Thumping, Spirit Filled Jesus Freak style church.

LOL -- just be careful what you ask for. In Texas, a request like that could land you with a bunch of snake-handlers and so forth. Heck, even a lot of middle-of-the-road Texas churches would probably qualify as "a Bible Thumping, Spirit Filled Jesus Freak style" by California standards and meet the requirements you're probably actually looking for.

Girl, if you start training and the Blue Ridge barn isn't as far as Legacy for me to drive, I'll be first in line! Me and my daughter both.

We also show courtesy by pulling to the side of the road when funeral procession is passing by.........you don't see that in many other places............

Used to be, everyone did that in the South and the North. But, now, you rarely see it happen even in the South.

Too bad. So many of our fine Southern manners are going by the wayside.

Unfortunately, it would be further for you. Blue Ridge is about another 15-20 minutes drive east of Legacy.

It wouldn't be quite as far to drive for me though. I am not making much money working for the trainer at Legacy but doing most of the work. I can't take on clients of my own due to the exclusivity policy at Legacy. So, to make more money, I have to leave the barn.

With the cost of gas, nearly half of my daily pay is eaten up driving to and from Legacy. I have reached the point of diminishing returns.

I'd love to have you and your daughter as clients though. Maybe we could work something out where I come to your place to give lessons to you and your daughter. I'd have to look at the mileage and come up with a fee that works for both of us though.

Wonder if there is anyone between us where I could rent their arena for an hour? Something to think about...

"We also show courtesy by pulling to the side of the road when funeral procession is passing by........."

This is bred into us. People forget and need to be reminded.

Recently I was driving into Victoria and saw a funeral procession coming. I pulled over to the side like everyone else, then got out of my truck and took my hat off.
Very soon, from nearly every car and truck people started getting out and standing beside their vehicle. The ones with hats and caps took them off.

They just needed a little reminder.

Maryland has lots of water and the perfect climate IMO. We get all four seasons...sun, beautiful fall with changing leaves, snow, and spring. If you go any more south, you won't get snow. Did you know Maryland has more water front property than any other state?

That sounds very good! How about hurricanes?

I like your message, Tall Texan. As probably the oldest native Texan on this thread, a Ronald Reagan attitude would be just fine! L,TOWM welcome to the Republic of Texas!! Just get ready for some BIG hail storms in your part of the state.
