Don't forget, Rather said that Castro is a swell guy; we know what a great judge of character ol' Danny is.

Okay, so there are a few fixer-uppers, but they're close to good schools and shopping!

I had a law professor who went on one of those state sponsored junkets.

He said Cuba only needed a coat of paint and it would be paradies.

Yes, the rusted-bits-of-tin shop is having a sale! Also, the local school now has one copy of Che's biography for every ten students.

Yep, that's what I saw...

When I was there, we were in small towns and were told (by the state provided guide) that all of the $$ was being spent in Havana to revitalize the city.

When we were in Havana and seeing the same destruction, we were told (by the SAME state provided guide) that all of the money was being spent in the small towns so that everyone wouldn't move to Havana in droves.

Hello?

Cubans aren't allowed to move from their districts without government permission (often nearly impossible to obtain... if they have a house to move to in the first place) anyway.

They don't mention that on the State Run Tour.

We hired a private tour guide. He is the one that took us to the places we wanted to go. He was also killed about four months after we left. Cause of death was accidental drowning.

.....curious....
