When Weatherford police Lt. Ronnie Villarreal heard that officers were chasing a woman in a sport utility vehicle Wednesday evening, he went straight to the dispatch center for more information.
A manager at the Catfish O'Harlie's restaurant had fled after police responded to a reported employee theft of money about 5:50 p.m., he was told.
As Villarreal listened, the phone rang.
The dispatcher answered, looked at Villarreal and said, "Sir, it's her."
The surprised watch commander spent the next 45 minutes talking to the woman on her cellphone as she zigzagged through Tarrant County.
She had one request: Stop chasing her.
"I was trying to convince her to stop," Villarreal said. "She kept saying she wouldn't and to stop pursuing her."
The woman was upset, saying that she had a daughter, Villarreal said. She never told him exactly why she fled the restaurant.
He stayed on the phone as Fort Worth police joined the chase, following her to Hurst and then back to Fort Worth on Northeast Loop 820.
A Fort Worth police helicopter trailed the driver as she took Interstate 35W south to Interstate 30 and headed west.
Villarreal stayed on the phone until Fort Worth officers spiked the SUV's rear tire on the interstate and the driver drove off on the Green Oaks Road exit.
She stopped the SUV near Applebee's Neighborhood Grill and Bar, got out and ran, Fort Worth police said. Officers quickly arrested her.
Police identified the woman as Lisa Duchane, 41. Villarreal said Duchane is wanted in New York state on warrants accusing her of grand larceny and forgery.
A woman who answered the phone at Catfish O'Harlie's at 1900 Santa Fe Drive said that no one at the restaurant had a comment.
Villarreal said the circumstances of the pursuit were certainly unusual.
"I've never been on the phone with [a fleeing driver] before," he said.

Yes, I'd like to report a suspicious vehicle with flashing lights, making loud noises behind me.......
Reminiscent of OJ and the White Blazer rushing along at an even 15 mph.
Whatcha gonna do when they come for you?!?
Hang up and drive, woman!
Dang cell phones are dangerous and cause accidents!
Leni
I was driving the other day and dropped my cellphone in my cup of coffee. The hot liquid in my lap made me toss my cordless razor out the window. The razor went through the windshield of the State Trooper Cruiser that was tailgating me with these silly blue lights on. I kept speeding up but he just kept tailgating me. I was doing close to 100 when I finally jammed on the brakes and crossed 2 lanes of traffic to stop on the shoulder. The dang fool tried to follow me but he got rammed by the 18 wheeler in the center lane. Since my cell phone wouldn't work any more I got off at the next exit and reported him from a payphone.
Crazy State Troopers.
(It's always easier to get forgiveness than permission)
Excellent! LOL
No problem ; )
Thanks

Thanks. You've all been a great audience. Please tip your servers and be safe driving home.
Thank your for bringing Presidential grade humor to my thread. You can have all of the door and half the bar take.

This is all just a big mistake. I call a do-over!
Wow. Ususally I work for free drinks. Money!
I did, however, neglect to tell you that I forgot to charge a cover or for any drinks. But your half of the beer cost comes to $14.00.
