Just a couple of points:
1. There are a LOT of Muslims in the prison system:inmates,counsellors,guards,etc.
2. Just about ANY of them would feel "obliged" to smuggle out letters for a "fellow Muslim".
3. Mail can only be censored if it goes through ats "regulation" path.Something passed,hand-to-hand, is not going to be SEEN by the warden's office.
4. It is in the nature of any US prison that someone is being released ( time served,parole.probation ) every day;and every inmate released is in a position to act as a "courier" for other inmates-including those supposedly "incommunicado".
5. The people "pushing" this story should certainly know what I've just outlined is a basic fact of life. ( If they don't,they should be in another line of business !)

The Blind Sheikh simply used his National Lawyer’s Guild lawyer, leftwing loon Lynne Stewart, to carry messages to his forces; he called her his “Secret Dove” ... which I suppose is a bit spicier than calling her his communist carrier pigeon.
