Univ. of Ill. Houses Former Weather Underground Fugitives, Bombers
The Daily Illini and other sources ^ | 2-28-2005 | thetpsreport

Posted on 03/01/2005 2:22:45 AM PST by thetpsreport

I wanted to mention something that has disturbed me greatly while reading over the Daily Illini today:

Allen Hall houses former fugitives By Nick Escobar Daily Illini - A woman who former FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover once called "the most dangerous woman in America," along with her husband, who helped bomb the Pentagon, will call Allen Hall home this week. (READ MORE)

This really, really bothers me. Why is the University of Illinois housing Bernardine Dohrn and Bill Ayers, these 'former' terrorists and fugitives of the Weather Underground as "Guests-in-Residence" in Allen Hall's Unit One housing for a week? (You can see their entire schedule for the week here.) Since when does the University of Illinois think it is a brilliant idea to bring admitted members of "revolutionary organization of communist men and women" to stay on campus?

Maybe it's because William "Bill" Ayers is actually a faculty member at the University of Illinois - Chicago! Funny, no where on his Staff Bio does it mention that he was once being hunted down by the FBI in connection with bombing the Pentagon, which Ayers admits to in his published memoir, "Fugitive Days":

IndyWeek.com - Ayers is unapologetic about his activities as a radical activist, and writes with pride, "Everything was absolutely ideal on the day I bombed the Pentagon." He also gleefully recounts his role in breaking Timothy Leary out of jail.

Was everything was ideal when the University of Illinois decided to hire a man whose ideals included bombing goverment buildings? I guess so.

And just who is this Timothy Leary fellow? Well let's take a look:

"He was dismissed as a professor of psychology at Harvard, where he taught from 1959 to 1963, for encouraging students to experiment with the hallucinogen LSD" and advocated for "young people to 'Turn on. Tune in. Drop out.'" He was later smuggled out of the country to Algeria.

So, we have a Univ. of Ill. - Chicago professor being paid with Good Citizens' tax dollars, who admits to bombing the Pentagon and is proud that he sprung a LSD advocate from jail, researching "school improvement, ethical and political dimensions of teaching, teacher education, child-centered teaching." Does this make any logical sense? I didn't think so.

But what about Ayers' wife, Bernardine Dohrn? Well, she was on the FBI's most wanted list, and that's definately worth noting. You don't get on that list because of things you didn't do. Being an active member of the Weather Underground, she recorded the following:

"This is Bernardine Dohrn. Within the next 14 days we will attack a symbol or institution of American injustice."

Does time heal? Can we forgive a group of radicals that used bombs to attack government and commercial targets? Just take a look at this list of bombings that were conducted by the Weather Underground. Included are attacks against the National Guard Headquarters, New York City Police Headquarters, Presidio Army Base, U.S. Capitol, and the U.S. State Department. I dare anyone to find me one person today who could detonate bombs at any one of those places and not be called a terrorist.

If Ayers and Dohrn are admitted terrorists, why aren't they sitting in a jail cell? They eventually turned themselves in, but the charges had to ultimately be dropped because the FBI used "improper surveillance" during their investigation. You can read the 420 page report from the FBI about the Weather Underground here if you'd like to know more.

So, we have "reformed" terrorists in our schools, getting paid with our tax dollars because the FBI screwed up. Boy, aren't these two lucky winners? But I sure know who the big losers are: the Good American Citizens.

I'll be looking into just how much money is being spent for Ayers and Dohrn's visit here to UIUC along with Ayers' salary and any more information that comes along. They might be sleeping comfortably at Allen Hall tonight, but I know that I'll be restless in my own bed.

(Disclosure: I am a journalism student at UIUC. I also work as an asst. opinions editor and technology columnist for the Daily Illini. My views/opinions do not represent the Illini Media Co. or the Daily Illini.)

I read about him a long time ago.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Weathermen

Many former Weathermen have re-integrated into society, without necessarily repudiating their original intent. Bill Ayers, now a Distinguished Professor of Education at the University of Illinois, said in a September 11, 2001 New York Times profile "I don't regret setting bombs [against non-human targets]. I believe we didn't do enough."

I'm a little pissed my tuition and my parents tax dollars go to this guy.

The New York Times had the bad timing to publish a fawning, fawning interview with Ayers on 9/11/01. Luckily for them, like all other news in that day's morning papers, it was quickly forgotten.

I'd just like to ask these two posuers if they've renounced communism.

I think I did read a little bit of it. Enough pages for a book. I almost forgot about that series, Churchill is the tip of the iceburg on college campuses.

Thought it was because the statute of limitations had lapsed on their charges.

Anyway, thanks for signing up today to bring us this one article.

The U of I, my alma mater, has been a center for kooks since my days there in the 60's. I remember that some good ole boys caught the founder of SDS, a left wing kook bunch then and gave the boy a buzz haircut after whipping his a$$ to get his attention. We used hand held clippers borrowed from the Army ROTC department. Helluva stink about it then....

Proving they haven't renounced their former america hating beliefs and continue to be a danger to society.

That they are honored by academia ought to be no surprise.

My alma mater from the early 90's, they must have thought it was tradition by my time to be a kook liberal bunch. While my time wasn't spent in LAS, I saw ans heard many loony ideals being spread campus wide..

My fondest memory of nuttiness was the sit-ins of the "Black Student Union" to protest the dismissal of a cheating, criminal thug.... and la raza was a big deal back then.

Indeed, he is "just the tip" -- there are a lot of domestic terrorists (does one ever become a 'former' terrorist, when one still has the wherewithall to commit terrorism again?) in our countries past who are still alive and not in jail. They pose a continuing threat.

Anybody know the whereabouts of all those who were sprung as Evil Willie was leaving office? Are they ready to help Mrs. Clinton get elected POTUS?

Isn't it great when the government forces you to pay taxes and then supports "schools" (re-education centers) to subvert the minds of your children to hate everything good that you tried to teach them? Oh, and I especially love the terrorist coddling, communism loving and America hating. Isn't this what we were warned about by Joe McCarthy?

Do you know what Ayers and Dohrn were doing on September 11, 2001?

I do.

They were to be honored by Studs Terkel (noted and beloved communist) at The Chicago Cultural Center - a public building.

Due to events of the day, the evening was rescheduled and held quietly a few weeks later.

Never forget.

The University of Illinois rolls out the red carpet for 1960s radicals Bernardine Dohrn and Bill Ayers, who were designated "guests in residence" this week. Hat tip: John Bambenek, who has more on the campus embrace of these domestic terrorists.

Remember that infamous 9/11/01 interview with Ayers in the New York Times? David Horowitz's reminder is here.

Dohrn and Ayers are the adoptive parents of unrepentant red-diaper baby Chesa Boudin, whom I wrote about here.

More whitewashing of the Weather Underground from the New York Times here. And more good background at Front Page Magazine.
