Apparently some Freepers honor a man who would shoot himself while his son and grandchild are in the house. I consider this man human garbage, but I guess I'm just harsh.

It really would have had to be bad to outdo what he said about Bush. It started out with "The child-President, George W. Bush..." and went downhill rapidly from there, ending about 2 pages later.

It shows that many things can be done while you're talking on the phone. Some watching TV, others killing themselves, or even... receiving... err... ask Clinton...

This whole obsession with this guy is weird.

I would have thought one was more likely to commit suicide while on hold (with some diluted Muzak rendition playing.)

I don't honor him for how he chose to leave this earth, but rather for some of what he wrote while here.

He'd most likely have some interesting things to call you as well, so the 2 of you are even, I guess. For my money, think of him as you will, it doesn't much matter to him (or me, for that matter).

I wish I could have been more supportive of his decision," she said. "It was a problem for us."

Is she crazy too?????

It really would have had to be bad to outdo what he said about Bush.

It echoed most of what you hear around FR, the most tame of which was something like "mushy mouthed treacherous politician who has given sex a bad name." But what will surprise you is that he really liked Pat Buchanan.

Not as bad as what he had to say about Bush. He wrote it in 2003, before the economic recovery took hold, and essentially predicted doom. Referred to it as "a dark period" in American history. Said that Bush lost 3 wars in 2 years, i.e. Afghanistan & Iraq. Don't remember what the 3d one was. Accused him of destroying social security, etc. Said that the economy and the stock market would never come back. It was one ridiculous lie after another.

No wonder he committed suicide.

I'm sure it was an accident. Thomson was just experimenting with his new recipe for "HST's Wall Phone Cherry Pie".

Hunter, as your attorney I would advise you to chill and enjoy your long dirt nap.

*** His son, daughter-in-law and 6-year-old grandson were in the house when the shooting occurred.***

What a pig!

This is the most celebrated suicide I've ever seen.

...next to Kurt Cobain.

ASPEN — Hunter S. Thompson heard the ice clinking.

The literary champ was sitting in his command post kitchen chair, a piece of blank paper in his favorite typewriter, dead of a self-inflicted gunshot through the mouth hours earlier.

But a small circle of family and friends gathered around with stories, as he wished, with glasses full of his favored elixir — Chivas Regal on ice.

"It was very loving. It was not a panic, or ugly, or freaky," Thompson's wife, Anita Thompson, said Thursday night in her first spoken comments since the icon's death Sunday. "It was just like Hunter wanted. He was in control here."

HST was 67. New widow is 32. HMMMMMM. (I'm sure it was a love match.)

I'm sure she is glad to get his inheritance and get on with her life without this nutbag around the house.

"This is the most celebrated suicide I've ever seen."

It's up there...along with Rachel Corrie's "suicide."

"This whole obsession with this guy is weird."

I could not agree more, and I think the obsession says much more about his fan base than it does about his writing or character.

This reminds me of the old Bob Newhart telephone routine.
