Anita Thompson, 32, said her husband had discussed killing himself in recent months and had been issuing verbal and written directives about what he wanted done with his body, his unpublished works and his assets.
Gee let's see here. If my wife ever even entertains the idea of killing herself the guns go away and I get her some help immediately.....
I wonder why this didnt happen in this case?

Is it just me or does it sound like she didn't really care a whole lot that he was getting ready to off himself?

He wanted to leave on top of his game. He was a few decades too late.

I heard Rush's guest host talking about this guy today. What a headcase. After listening to what the guy had to say about Bush, I'd say we dodged the bullet when he only decided to commit suicide. He sounds like the kind of guy who would try to take a few other people out as well.

Maybe she was hoping he'd do it and get it over with.

"He wanted to leave on top of his game.."Wow, he was really trippin'.

Sadly, selfish. . .the least he could have done; was to get up out of his favorite chair and go into the woods; where the children would not have seen/heard or been a part of this in any way.
Interesting the interview as found on Drudge reads a bit differently on some details; not much; but more in depth, as well, albeit mostly about her. . .

How, by buying a larger gauge shotgun?

He must have hated his wife to put her through that, and it doesn't sound like she cared all that much for him either.

Sounds like a Columbo episode.

This loser was a first class selfish a$$hole right up to his last losing act:
"She said her husband had asked her to come home from a health club so they could work on his weekly ESPN column but instead of saying goodbye, he set the telephone down and shot himself."
"Thompson said she heard a loud, muffled noise, but didn't know what had happened. "I was waiting for him to get back on the phone," she said."
"Hunter Thompson, famous for "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas" and other works of New Journalism, shot himself in the head Sunday in the kitchen of his Aspen-area home. He was 67."
"His son, daughter-in-law and 6-year-old grandson were in the house when the shooting occurred."
What a terrible thing to do to his wife, son, DIL and his six year old grandson. May he spend eternity in hell for his last act of moral insanity.
