Isn't it amazing that there are brown shirts still alive and well and living in America? Unless we stop this now, the Nazi sentiments of 'no weak or ill need live' will prevade this nation...it has already begun, and Terri's fight is a perfect indicator. There's a motiviating spirit behind those who want to see the helpless killed because they are "inconvenient." What an evil...but when we legalized the murder of our very most helpless (our unborn), we should have known this would follow. It's inevitable within a culture that embraces death and decides it has the power to decide who is worthy to live and who is not. It's not our judgment call to make.
Probably not. On the other hand, it would send a strong message. A strong stand could help the beginning of a culture change; public awareness of the runaway action of judges must be raised!!
I'll admit I don't pay much attention to these threads but is it possible the parents could just take her home?
Excellent comments.
Two words that liberals dread-------"responsibility" and "commitment" , which are associated with love. This is why they are for aborting life and snuffing it out in examples like this. They would have us believe that they stand for a higher purpose instead, but can never define it. They in fact, are anti-love, and there is no greater proof of this, than has been evidenced here.
This is not a woman who wants to die; this is a woman who, against all odds, has battled for 14 years now to live -- and who has been mysteriously prone to utter the words, "Help me."
This case is supposedly all about Terris rights and what would she would have wanted. Even George Felos and Michael Schiavo base their entire argument that they are only doing what Terri wanted.
What better proof of what Terri really wants than the fact that she is still alive 14 years later! If Terri really wanted to die, she would have, on her own, long ago.
AppyPappy, her husband won't even let them visit, let alone take her home. Do pay attention to the threads...this is not only about Terri, it's about the handicapped, the helpless, the elderly in this country. One day that could be you or me. Please go back and read...then get involved. It's quite personal.
This woman just needs the time for her brain to heal.
Agree with all you've said. In particular, the Governor is being tested here. Will he be a leader or a politician? Will he do the right thing, or will he skate? So far, he has confounded the cynics and stuck his neck way out there for Terri. He seems to grasp that the political risks are greater, if he does not try to save her; and that is uncommon thinking in a government position these days.
Governor Bush can still do plenty. I hope he does. And President Bush---and Pope John Paul II also---can move mountains simply by addressing the issue. I believe that they have a positive duty to do so, because their power is so rare and the moral issue is so grave.
bttt
Oh come on. Either Jeb Bush is the most powerful elected official in the state of Florida or "judge" Greer is.
I'm not sure what the Pope can do - most Americans don't recognize him as having any authority. I certainly don't.
The worst thing about this whole ordeal is the way they intend to let her die - by removing her feeding tube. Dehydration is one of the most awful ways to die - saw my Father-in-Law go that way when he was dying of cancer. They wouldn't let him have anything to drink as it just made his lungs fill up faster. He was absolutely miserable - begging for just a few drops of water.
What legal actions are left?
The Governor of Texas does not have the right to pardon a criminal on death row, he can only request a 30 day stay.
Michael Schiavo refuses to allow Terri outside of her room at Woodside Hospice. Terri hasn't been outdoors in since she was admitted to hospice five years ago, except to be placed in an ambulence to be taken to Morton Plant Hospital for a life threatening infection.
It is customary for people on FR to ask questions in order to obtain information. I don't have time to read 100,000 messages in order to get the answer to one simple question. Thanks
So the ex-husband has control. Thanks. That's what I wanted to know.
Millions of people around the world DO recognize him as having authority. Moral authority. And when he speaks, it makes news. His words are influential in matters of morality.
Whether or not he has authority, whether he speaks to Catholics or atheists, his words carry weight. A few words from him in Terri's direction would go a long way.
>>> Millions of people around the world DO recognize him as having authority. Moral authority. And when he speaks, it makes news.
Same could be said for Jesse Jackson, Billy Graham and Al Sharpton.
