Not so fast, the Poles inflicted 15,000 KIAs on the invading German troops. It's possible that instead the Germans would have had to settle for gaining Polish Corridor and Gdansk, and negotiating settlement with Polish government. Plus to go any further probably would have provoked war with the Soviet Union without the non-aggression pact. But with the Soviets out of the picture as a threat, they had free reign in Poland.

Germans would have defeated Poland anyway, but it would have taken them at least 2 months. Some Polish unites stopped fighting, when Soviets attacked. Even Poles, who usually think that they can defeat everyone, realized that they can't win against both Germany and Soviet Union - the most powerful countries in Europe in those times.

Exactly, we all know about how the heroes of Westerplatte held out. But once the Soviets entered the fray, the Poles knew they could not hope to overcome both armies. It would have been interesting to see how Poles could have fared against the Germans alone. I doubt Germans could take the whole country without a huge cost, I suspect Hitler would have simply grabbed pre-WWI German lands, and call it a victory and negotiate settlement with Polish government (of course it wouldn't have lasted long).

It's hard to tell would would have happened If...
In many eastern regions Poles were minority (It was excuse for Stalin). I think that Germans would have tried to create some puppet Western Ukrainian Republic etc.

Ironic since Poland's Prime minister Belka is a member of the reformed Polish Communist party.
I won't mention the fact that pre invasion Poland helped herself to a slice of Czechoslovakia yet Poland joining to end the Czechoslovakian republic created an indefensible border with Germany.
I am wary of foreigners trying to influence America into joining their side in Europe's perpetual tribal wars.

Oh, so Poland was not above allying itself with Nazi Germany for a little payback then?
See what happens when we Americans start taking sides in European border wars?

Yalta had nothing to do with Poland or any little nation - it was the allied empires/super powers carving up the world the way they always do.
Poland does not like the results of Yalta? Then we should return areas of Prussia to Germay and then move the frontier eastwards returning the areas taken by the Soviets back to Poland so we no longer live with the results of Yalta. Up for it?

You really don't have to read articles about some little nations If you don't want to do it.

There was no agreement between Poland and Germany regarding the Cieszyn region. It's not as if by taking it, it gave any help to the Germans. They were indifferent as they figured they would get it all anyway when they attacked Poland the following year. I don't necessarily agree with what Poland did, but the fact is, the inhabitants of that region were primarily Polish, the nation of Czechoslovakia was on their death bed after Munich, and Poland wanted to protect her people from whatever was going to befall that country (September 1939 made it a moot point, but back then you could see the logic).
And what did this have to do at all with America, we didn't get involved until 1941, after Japan attacked us, and Hitler had long moved on past Poland to attacking France, Britain and Russia.

We ? You can't move much more than your ass from one room to another.
BTW I'm sure that your opinion about Poland would be much different If Poles on this forum were Putin's fan.
Go back to your transformers you little perverted Putinist.
To: dfwgator
Don't waste your time. Putin is his hero - that says all.
To: Grzegorz 246
Seems I struck a nerve. I will not allow America to be dragged in to European border/tribal wars so they can fo example fight Poland's wars for her - this of course has been the standard model adopted by smaller European nations over the centuries - find a protector power and then get that power involved in their territorial affairs.

Some regions of Poland were German majority regions - part of Germany for centuries.
who is right or wrong in such cases?
When will America say enough - not our business to get involved beyond good faith mediators?

Putin is not my hero nor am I a fan. But I will step in and correct what I see as foreign advocacy that trys to gain traction by appealing to left over Cold War hostility, which if allowed to fester threatens future American relations with Russai, an important energy resource producing nation that is a nuclear power and a permanent member of the UN Security Council.
I do not want to see America dragged into Poland's historic beef with Russia.

Don't worry, NATO will die within few years. Besides, we don't use to beg anyone for help.

Your country has never fought for us. Don't worry.
