The 9/11 Commission report said America isn't fighting a war on "some generic evil" called terrorism, but a war on Islamist terrorism. What are we to make, then, of the startling fact that some of our Saudi allies are seeding U.S. mosques with enemy propaganda?
The nonpartisan Freedom House recently released a report on the spread of Saudi-sponsored hate literature. In 2003, investigators visited leading American mosques and collected written material available to congregants. The documents, originating either with the Saudi government or Saudi-funded sources, advocate Wahhabism, the extremist form of Islam that Freedom House describes as a "fanatically bigoted, xenophobic and sometimes violent ideology."
According to the report (available at freedomhouse.org/religion), investigators gathered literature that teaches contempt for Jews, Christians and tolerant Muslims, as well as hatred for America. Material found in a Houston mosque even commands the faithful to establish a revolutionary fifth column.
Some of these documents came from the Dallas Central Mosque in Richardson. Unfortunately, this kind of thing is not altogether alien to this mosque. Last spring, it hosted a youth quiz competition, sponsored by two national organizations closely tied to the worldwide Islamist movement. Kids were tested on the work of premier jihad ideologist Sayyid Qutb.

Now that's a editorial column that really makes sense.
Until a few years ago, I used to believe the Saudis were our allies, both economic and in the war against extremism.
Then I read a book called Hatred's Kingdom (available in libraries or at Amazon.com).
The Saudis and their malignant strain of Islam ARE the problem.
I'm not convinced that we can win the war on terror until the Saudis stop their proslytizing (sp?) of Wahhabism.
The Center for Freedom is NOT a conservative group...check out the members list.
This report is a small but welcome step towards the realization of what has been going on in America since the early 80's.
Check out this, The New York Daily News, "Sowing the Seeds of Hatred", by Larry Cohler-Esses, March, 2003. Details hate-filled publications in New York area mosques and schools. Particularly, read the excerpts from "Mercy to Mankind" and "What Islam is All About". Daniel Pipes has info on Emerick and Faroque Khan on his website. Anti-CAIR has info on Ghazi Khankan. Diocese of Rockville Center, in particular, Telecare and Msgr. Hartmann of the God Squad, refuse to sever ties with the affiliated mosque, The Islamic Center of Long Island in Westbury, NY. Congressmam Peter King of Nassau has severed ties with this mosque. Khan is also chapter head of the Islamic Society of North America, President of the NY Chapter of American Muslim Alliance and Khankan is NY Chapter head of CAIR.

Probably not. Even the writer of the editorial says:
"The Saudis and their malignant strain of Islam ARE the problem."
...and rightfully concludes:
"The war for the hearts and minds of Muslims is being fought here, too. The U.S. government allows the foreign enemies of freedom and tolerance to spread jihad ideology on the home front. Why? Congress should get to the bottom of this."
Thanks for the additional references.
