Some of y'all need to turn your sarcasm detectors up a smidge...
The piece is sarcastic, but the reality is that many elderly people naturally think that Bush's plan offers nothing for them. What do they have to gain? Nothing. They won't be around when SS craters. They don't want to be bothered with the problem of figuring out whether this plan will actually hurt them, and it certainly won't help them, so they just oppose it.
I'm 47. Bush's plan really won't affect me, either, except in one respect--namely, it might impact the solvency or insolvency of the system, and I don't become eligible for SS until 2025, at the current retirement age.
I may or may not be around when the Democrats say it will go bust in 2042, but the likelihood is that the voters' fear of insolvency (as well as the negative cash flow drain resulting from the need to pay off the IOU's starting in 2018) is going to force benefit cuts and/or tax increases long before then, so I would not be surprised if I get caught up in that political tempest, if nothing is done to fix it now.
It's relatively easy to fix the problem now, as even the Democrats admit. So why are they insisting that we've got to wait until it's a crisis before doing something? If we wait much longer, it will become almost impossible to fix the problem without big tax increases and/or benefit cuts.
That's irresponsible.
The guy is obviously poking the dumbocrats in the ribs by pointing out their own stupidity...unless my B.S. context-ometer has gone haywire.
Nobody - not even the stupidist dumbocrat is so blatantly moronic.
Then again, I have underestimated their stupidity before, so....ya never know! (Hell - 59 million of them voted for an admitted traitor and bona-fide pinko socialist!)
ok....I was clueless. In defense of my cluelessness, so much incrediblely bazarre stuff has been happening that it's hard to tell what's real and what's a joke.
The tip-off that this is satire is the honesty.
And this one's easy, too...
It never fails to amaze me how many here would not recognize sarcasm (and for that matter satire) if it bit them on the butt.
LOL! Good find.
Satire, but, IMO, the El Paso Times didn't get it.
you rofgot: This is the system we voted to give ourselves and we deserve it!
Satire precedes the Democrats. We make a ridiculous joke, they come back three months later and demand it.
I would expect you to post an article like this.
I want him to have as much free medicine as it takes for him to be able to play the dollar slots at the casinos. Doesn't matter if I can't keep my kids in college, we will all sleep well knowing he can do at least one gambling junket a month.
Based upon the demographics of women who have received abortions over the past 32 years, about 2/3 of that 40 million (who would have been of voting age in 2004) would have been Democrats. Doing some quick math, I figure that the difference in Bush's winning margin, and therefore victory for John Kerry, are potential Democrat voters who have been killed-off by abortion over the last 32 years. The left has been killing off their own these past three decades.
I think sarcasm/irony posts need their own version of a "Barf Alert" in them.
Something along the lines of:
The blood pressure spikes generated by posts without some sort of warning are not good for heart health.
Yeah, seems to dripping in sarcasm
...as they are dragged off to the chopping block you will hear them scream!
