There is only one explanation I can think of for this statement to make any sense whatsoever. One could suppose that some homosexuals, like Bell, like to be a victim. They define themselves by how sorry other people feel for them.
They love it when people point out that their lifestyle is perverted so that they can cry "bloody oppression" and get sympathy from the mainstream establishment. They love how some parts of society feel bad that they are unable to marry and are willing to grant them sympathy. They love the idea of having a fatal disease that will kill them soon. What can get greater sympathy than that?
I really can't think of any other explanation for this "bug chaser" syndrome. It's just sick and suggests a host of psychological problems.
Just a side note: In between Depeche Mode and Erasure, Vince Clarke formed Yaz (Yazoo) with Allison Moyet.
Erasure basically sounded the same as Yaz...they just replaced a female vocalist with a gay male one.
Maybe he just wants to preserve the illusion that he is in control. It was his idea, he wanted this. In an odd way, he may have too much pride to admit his dumb actions did him in.

He is quite correct, though I'm sure for the wrong reasons. HIV is a myth. Western AIDs is death-by-medication (the drugs used: AZT, AZT-analogues that block fat metabolism and cathepsin inhibitors are all lethal over time.)
As long as the talentless punk avoids any form of medication for his "disease" he will be fine.

Good point, if anyone else suggested that Aids makes you more of a part of the gay community you'd never hear the end of it. No longer the equal opportunity disease it seems.
Nope in the Homosexual community there are people called "bug chaser" People who advertise in Gay papers for sexual encounters with HIV positive people for the thrill or maybe getting or not getting HIV. I think this is a good example of when God said that he turns people over to their depravity. If the community leaders found people shooting up poisen to see if it might or might not kill them, they would lock them up. Instead it is called tolerance.
