I absolutely agree with you, but it still seems like the number of gays must be higher than commonly stated. Even allowing the disproportionate percentages in places like SF and NYC, they seem to have well-established communities in almost every region of the US.
I believe that homosexual converts are increasing, not because they are "gay", but because they can get their "rocks off" without the consequences of having to made someone pregnant. It's very popular in prisons I hear. When a culture's morals declines to the sewer where this nation is headed, then anything in the imagination of the human heart is possible and will eventually become totally acceptable. If killing your unborn baby is acceptable, then ANYTHING can become acceptable.
A Gayborhood?
Interesting use of the term "create". Most neighborhoods are able to create and sustain themselves from within. The Gayborhood will have to continually recruit.
Recruit in the "gay" vernacular means "intice and rape".

In places like Spokane, or parts of Idaho and Montana, you have places where the main industries have died off. Any young person with half a brain or a good work ethic tends to flee such communities, leaving behind old people and "left side of the bell curve" younger people without the talent or initiative to leave. The latter tend to get involved in drugs, join biker gangs, or skinhead movements.
In the case of the compound at Hayden Lake in Idaho, you essentially had a community of Skins from places in California who wanted to create their own "separatist nation" away from the so-called "mud people" they fled. Now that land is getting more expensive and retirees are moving into that area, I guess they have to move to North Dakota.
Huh? Where have you been? The only places you find PRs in Manhattan these days are in the projects on upper Park north of 96th street, with a dwindling contingent on the Lower East Side. The only "ethnic communities" left in Manhattan are the Chinese on the Lower East side and along Canal, the Dominicans in Upper Manhattan (Washington Heights and Inwood), and the blacks in West Harlem. Even in the case of the latter, you now have white yuppies moving into the brownstones.
Were it not for the projects, there would be NO low income people in Manhattan of any stripe.
Why is this news?
There was an article about well to-do kids who go on foodstamps in the Village voice. Some lady was complaining about the white people overrunning Bushwick and 'gentrifying' the neighborhood. Oh brother *LOL*
And, the case incidence rate of STDs and tuberculosis would make for some interesting epidemiological statistics, as well.
