[India News]: Bangalore, Jan 21 : American evangelist Benny Hinn Friday evening began his much-awaited "Festival of Blessings" prayer meeting here, which saw a shutdown call and incidents of stone throwing by protesting Hindu activists earlier in the day.
About 8,000-10,000 policemen have been deployed in and around the sprawling venue to regulate crowds.
Organisers of the show, being held at the Jakkur airstrip on the outskirts of the city, said earlier that about 400,000 people had already gathered for the event from all parts of the country, especially south India. A few hundred also came from abroad.
Speaking to IANS on phone from the venue, they said, "People are still trooping in, awaiting the arrival of Hinn to conduct the mass prayer and deliver sermons. We are expecting 200,000 more people in the night."
The function started with a 2,400-voice choir singing hymns and prayers in several Indian languages apart from English. Giant screens and mega speakers have been installed all over the grounds for a closer view of the massive stage and to listen to Hinn's religious discourses.
Undeterred by the "Bangalore bandh" shutdown call given by the Hindu Jagaran Vedike with the support of the Sangh Parivar, including the Bharatiya Janata party, the organisers are going ahead with the three-day programme, armed with a high court order.
Earlier in the day, the city witnessed stray incidents of stone throwing at moving buses and processions by anti-Hinn activists, demanding a ban on the programme.
According to police, about 60 state-owned buses were damaged in some parts of the city during the day-long shutdown that led to closure of shops and commercial establishments.
Friday being an official holiday on account of Eid, schools, colleges and government offices remained closed, and there was less traffic on roads.
But roads leading to the venue, about 20 km from the city, were choc-a-bloc with hundreds of buses and other vehicles jamming the national highway.
"We have nabbed about 100 miscreants who were indulging in stone throwing and attempting to torch some buses. We have also rounded-up some leaders of the Vedike when they were trying to disrupt traffic and create disturbances," city police commissioner M. Marisamy told IANS.

Oops, close but no cigar...
Charlatan.
I can't stand that BS master Hinn.
And that's before we even begin getting to his doctrinal horrors.

I partly suspect that the rabble-rousers were hired to generate publicity.
I don't see any other Christian over there willing to preach the Gospel Message to over 400,000.
Don't think Jesus is frowning down on him...Just hypocritical human beings as usual.
God Bless him for spreading the Word Of Jesus!
Amen and Amen!
Madikeri, Jan. 20 (KBM&-MRS)- It could be dubbed as a 'remote controlled miracle'. A paralytic patient, who was to be cured at the Benny Hinn congregation to be held in Bangalore from Jan. 21 was cured of his disease almost three days earlier at a far away village even before meeting the evangelist.
The media persons were in for a surprise when they saw a paralytic patient just stood up and walked up to them in the house of Bharathi in Virupakshapura, JP Colony, on Tuesday night.
Kuria Kose, aged about 70, was brought by his wife and daughter from Tarikere on Tuesday morning to Bharathi's house on their way to Bangalore for the Hinn congregation.
Kuria Kose, who was claimed to have suffered stroke in his right hand and right leg, was sitting in a chair watching the media per- sons' conversation with Bharathi.
As the media persons were coming out, Kuria Kose, all of a sudden got up from his chair, walked up to them and shook hands with them to bid farewell.
In fact, Bharathi had earlier told media persons that the oldman could not walk because of the stroke. He was being taken to Bangalore to be cured by Benny Hinn.
Benny has some fund-raising tactics I don't like, but the dude does have healing power from on high...
...and the power can be put to good use in India.
God bless 'em.
I sort of missed where that included lying and fraud. But I guess I shouldn't be surprised after a lot of the creationism posts around here.
I saw this article at that web site:
http://www.newkerala.com/news-daily/news/features.php?action=fullnews&id=63115
"Protest against evangelist's programme in Bangalore"
It states:
"BJP and the Sangh Parivar outfits, supported by some local organisations, have been campaigning against Hinn's programme alleging that it was aimed at religious conversion, a charge the organisers have denied."
So, Hinn is not trying to convert?
And how many people have you pulled out of a wheelchair?
Not so sure it's from "on high" if it even exists.
"But I guess I shouldn't be surprised after a lot of the creationism posts around here."
So? As long as they guy who was healed believes, what does it matter you don't?
There was also miracle healings on the set of The Passion of the Christ"
There was also a Doctor cured of a horrible cancer with days to live. I am sorry you have not ever had the wonderful expereince of Jesus's healing.
And "preaches the Gospel"? What do you think the Gospel is, Missy? When did you EVER hear Hinn preach it?
Dan
Wow, you're gullible. Have you been wiring money to any Nigerians lately?
The typical modus operandi of these guys is to find people who arrived at the performance WITHOUT A WHEELCHAIR and then GIVE them one. And they then proceed to pull them out of the wheelchair.
WOO-HOO! The late, great Benny Hill! I loved his show!
I was hoping somebody'd post a pic of him, thanks.
ROFL. You think evolutionists believe humans evolved from Rhesus Monkeys?
Humans didn't evolve from monkeys at all. Both Monkeys and humans evolved from a common primate ancestor, now extinct, millions of years ago.
And my point is FR creationists have a habit of repeatedly posting fabricated and out of context quotations, and also outright lying. Which sort of befuddles me because they also claim to be quite religious, and I think it's pretty clear that sort of thing is verboten.
If I were a betting woman, I'd bet good money that at the very bottom of it all you'll find Indian politicans -- in this case the militant-nationalist Hindu faction(s) -- and their rent-a-mod. Politicans from every venue have played the "mass protest" card throughout India for the last 60+ years.
He should get in touch with the skeptic 'the amazing randy, who has offered at least $100,000 dolars for proof of a single incident of miraculous healing. No one has taken him up on his offer yet.
I thought I might get a job as a catcher on his show.
Not only do I know a guy healed from a Benny Hinn crusade, but I also know about another 10 or so people who have had some incredible miraculous healings thanks to someone praying for them, and one guy I know has had about three or four miraculous healings of various conditions...
I myself have been on the receiving end of a healing, done in the name of Christ Jesus, and it is for real!
Personally, I don't really care if anyone believes it or not, I know I have been healed of a condition (arthritis) that simply doesn't "go away" or has a cure.
Sorry I can't prove it to those who doubt, but then I benefit from the healing whether or not anyone believes me, and that's enough for me!
Thank you Jesus! He still heals! (And not just through Benny Hinn!)
He's not going anywhere near Randi as Randi was the guy that busted Peter Popoff (A fradulent Benny Hinn type from a previous day) on the Johnny Carson show.
I agree. I don't have enough information or authority to judge Binnie. If he is able to bring a fraction of those people to find Jesus, that is more than I have done today.
Exactly,
Benny Hinn does not give one ounce of credit for doing any of the healings, he preaches that Jesus can heal anyone ANYONE Why? Because Jesus can. He might be showy Oh well he is able to bring the Miracle of hope and healing through Jesus to the entire world. Does he ask for money YES! who is gonna pay for all these crusades does he reap some of the benefits? Proably yes as I and all of us do from the jobs we do.
I followed a spritual 3 day fast from a site that Benny Hinn recommended from the Holy Sciptures, it was incredible that I received healing not from Benny Hinn but from Jesus Christ, Hinn is only the messenger.
Is Amazing Randy still around? Haven't heard from him in years...
One lady I know was healed of curvature of the spine (I forget the technical name for it) and has before & after X-Rays to prove it! (Helps that she's an RN...) No joke or slight-of-hand with her, she had terrible problems with her back for years, and was over-joyed when all the pain and suffering she had endured went away.
But of course those stories of miraculous healing aren't anything compared to those who have been raised from the dead...
I think that You All are 100% Correct concerning Benny Hinn.
In my Opinion....Benny Hinn IS A HERETIC.
SHAME ON HIM.
JUSTICE will be served on The Great Day of The LORD...when Hinn will have to stand before HIS...GOD'S Throne and Give a Proper Account of himself.
Hinn...Will be found: NAKED, WANTING AND WITHOUT AN EXCUSE.
My only question about faith healers is why, if God has given them divine powers to heal the lame and the sick, why hasn't God given them the power to heal their own hair??
The hairstyles these televangelists wear are hysterical. Benny Hinn looks like he has a small aircraft carrier on his head.
He preaches the Miracles Jesus can do in your life when you give your life to him when you repent of your sins with a sincere heart, he gives hopeless people hope because those are the promises of Jesus Christ.
He does not promise people they are going to go home be instantly cured, win the lotto, become famous, he preaches what prayer and Jesus and reading your Bible will do for your soul your eternal salvation.
Sometimes Jesus is more concerned about our Spiritual Healing first before our Physical Healing, none the less he hears all prayers from sincere people.

Shame on him? for telling people Jesus Heals?
What should he say Jesus is sending you all to hell?
I guess that's why at the end of his stage shows Hinn will say things like "come back tomorrow starting at 2 for more miracles."
Does he ask for money YES! who is gonna pay for all these crusades does he reap some of the benefits?
It's expensive to maintain that private jet and mansion.
Well do you have a list of all the people he turned on to Satan at his crusades? Like to see that...
Have you been to one of his crusades
Keep it up sister! You got the demons, scoffers, and pharisees rattled now... :)
I guess that's why at the end of his stage shows Hinn will say things like "come back tomorrow starting at 2 for more miracles."
NO HE DOES NOT...
Jets and Mansions?
Hmm... So does Pres Bush, Gov Scharwnegger, Mel Gibson there devout Christians, Does GOD designate who gets to be rich and who doesn't?
At JREF, we offer a one-million-dollar prize to anyone who can show, under proper observing conditions, evidence of any paranormal, supernatural, or occult power or event. The prize is in the form of negotiable bonds held in a special investment account. The JREF does not involve itself in the testing procedure, other than helping to design the protocol and approving the conditions under which a test will take place. All tests are designed with the participation and approval of the applicant. In most cases, the applicant will be asked to perform a relatively simple preliminary test of the claim, which if successful, will be followed by the formal test. Preliminary tests are usually conducted by associates of the JREF at the site where the applicant lives. Upon success in the preliminary testing process, the "applicant" becomes a "claimant."I wonder what those "preliminary tests" consist of????To date, no one has ever passed the preliminary tests.
I'd rather be a Berean than a Thessalonian.
I've been to his miracle circuses. That's what he said before he left the stage.
