Was McConnell not a senator at that time?

For Chief Justice, Antion Scalia is the most likely to be nominated. The fact that Senate 'Rat Leader Harry Reid praised Scalia bids well for his chances. As for succeeding Scalia, Appeals Justice Michae Luttig is the most likely nominee.

I don't think so. Scalia is going to be 70 this year. I think W's going to look for a CJ who'll be around for a bit longer that you'd expect to see Scalia hang in there.

The left has been signalling madly about what judges it may accept as S Ct nominees, and whom they would Bork. McConnell would make a fine Justice, but not as a replacement for the Chief. I prefer Luttig in this slot.

I think Rehnquist's spot will be filled by either Thomas or Scalia, probably Scalia; any new justice will be an associate.

any new justice will be an associate. Why do you think that?
