CNN's Term for Pro-Life: "Opposed to Abortion Rights;" Term for Pro-Abortion: "Pro-Choice"
CNN - Inside Politics | governsleast governsbest

Posted on 01/10/2005 1:23:14 PM PST by governsleastgovernsbest

Not that anyone had any doubts, but CNN made its stance on the abortion issue crystal clear in the context of an interview by Inside Politics' Judy Woodruff of former U.S. Rep. Tim Roemer of Indiana, who has announced that he is seeking the chairmanship of the DNC.

Unusual for a Democrat, Roemer is pro-life.

But on the two occasions when that fact arose, Woodruff referred to Roemer not as being "pro-life," but as being "opposed to abortion rights for women."

Yet when Woodruff quoted Kate Michelman, former head of NARAL, who condemned Roemer's candidacy, she referred to pro-abortion people as being "pro-choice."

Thus rather than according the two groups the monikers they prefer - pro-life and pro-choice - CNN accorded that favor only to the pro-abortion side, framing the issue exclusively in terms of rights and choice, and casting pro-lifers as people who would deny rights to women.

As an aside, when on a couple occasions Roemer offered his nostrums as to what was necessary to get the Democrat party going again, Woodruff noddingly agreed "we hear you." You almost expected her to whip her DNC membersship card out of her purse and waive it around!

Why is this any surprise? CNN loves to play with words in order to manipulate the public. This is also why Fox news is blowing them out of the water.

No surprise, as the first line of my post indicated, but still, the in-your-face brazenness was breathtaking.

They are going by the approved "style book," which all news organizations require their reporters and writers to use. In the book they are directed to use the terms "pro-choice" and "anti-abortion."

Term for Pro-abortion should be "opposed to fetus rights".

I just saw this article seconds before the ping. CNN couldn't get more contorted.

Please see #8. Frankly, while I had no doubts as to where CNN in general and Judy in particular stand, frankly I was taken aback by the blatantly unequal treatment.

The MSM is not in favor of equal rights. If they were they would promote the need for men to "disavow" fatherhood as a form of male abortion. After all, isn't the health (mental or otherwise) of the father just as important as the health of the mother?

Judy WOOFruff is a left wing hack..... I will not forget the big gasp she made when the republicans won big in the 1994 elections. That's when I knew she was a commie....

Haven't I seen articles that the leftists are going to try and distance themselves from abortion somewhat? It will all be a smokescreen of course but I think that's at least part of what we're seeing here.

"Woodruff noddingly agreed "we hear you."

Good grief. Rather brazen, yes?

Every media organization has its own style book, reflecting its own values. Surely Fox News, for example, doesn't employ the same nomenclature.
