The channel 7 people said they, too, heard that thunder/lightning and everyone in the studio thought it was a quick snappy type earthquake.
I did a lot of research before picking the Pocatello area for my "escape" from San Diego. I did miss one thing. Wind. We get lots of wind off the Snake River plain. Sometimes a windstorm lofts very fine volcanic ash. You see what appears to be a white fog heading inbound from the west. What you get is talcum powder fine ash in the air. It seeps through the edges of the window casements.
I had to repair my rain gutters two years ago. A steady 60 MPH wind with gusts over 70 MPH was enough to pull out the big nails used to affix the gutters. The repair company replaced the damage sections and affixed the gutters with "barn bolts". They are like large lag screws. No more problems since then.
The wind is about the only thing that annoys me in my new locale.
Here in Bend, (OR) this will be our 4th major snowfall of the season. Nice low circling off the coast thats combining with a "pineapple express" to bring in the snow.

Snow level is supposed to drop to 500' elevation with a lot of the valley in for snowfall; you might see it yet.
Were ready, still have the other 3 hour DVD "making of" section of LOTR to watch.
Doubt that it will be as bad as the Winter of '74. Had as much as 5-6 feet on the ground for quite a rhile in Cheney where I was going to college.
where in minnesota, I am from duluth
FINALLY, it's snowing in Grants Pass!
I sure love the Bend area. I spent a year going around oregon gathering signatures on an OCA petition and I loved Bend, Sumpter, Anthony Lakes, Prineville, Baker and Oregon Cities...they were like the old west, especially the ghost town areas around Sumpter.

"Hmm - I'm out in Illinois Valley past CJ and it's snowing on top of old snow."
You live in the Gasquet area?
So the IV had snow already on the floor?
I'd love to live in the IV, but my work's in Grants Pass and I don't want to commute 60 miles a day.

I have French drains with water retreating through them pretty heavily this second.
They are working great, but because they handle something retreating, is that why they called them FRENCH?
"Los Angeles never sees snow"
In 1949 Los Angeles had 6" of snow.
Waite Park(St. Cloud). Duluth has one of the best downtowns and Harbor areas. Outside of Minnesota and Northern Wisconsin, not many people know that.
A half decade ago as a freak of nature. We don't get snow, just lots of rain and some ice now and then.
Bend is "cool". Moved here after living in Bandon for 20 years. Love the summers here after so much time on the coast.
We normally make it down to G.P. every couple of years to take a ride on the jet-boats on the Rogue as we visit Jacksonville for the Britt Festival.
"They" are forcasting 5-8" of snow in the next 12 hours although I'd like more.
It's starting to get kind of cloudy at the moment and a little dark in my area of Phoenix.
Ground is fairly saturated here, too. I love the rain but the solid two days of it we had last week flooded my backyard (which the landscaper screwed up and graded down toward the house). Everytime we get a big rain (not real often) the patio floods up to the sliding glass doors. And the dog won't go out, LOL!
It's been a few years since we've had this much rain.
That's the last I heard. This combination hasn't occurred since 1950.
I'm in Augusta, GA and it's been in the 70s for the past week with no end in sight. People are strolling about in shorts and t-shirts. I know this is the south but we're usually in the 40s and 50s at this time of year.
Hope you guys keep safe.
Same here in Mobile...It's like spring.
The weather dude on KGO radio just said Reno will get 4 feet of snow by Monday. So much for hanging out at the Cal-Neva.
enhanced infrared at 3:45 P.M. eastern, Friday
