SUVs certainly make one feel less vulnerable and may encourage aggressive behavior.

They are designed and marketed specifically to that end. The headlights and grilles are designed specifically to look aggressive and animalistic. The whole Silly Useless Vehicle phenomenon is a bunch of pathetic micropenile jerks trying to compensate for their perceived shortcomings, and the auto companies' rolling in the dough catering to that.

All those stuffed animals in the back seat make it hard for them to see

And let's not forget those nauseating "BABY ON BOARD" signs blocking their vision.

I couldn't agree more.

For me, there's little doubt that for many the truck/SUV is a tough guy costume.

FYI in the interest of full disclosure, I have a 98 Chevy Cavalier Z24 (daily driver), a Honda S2000 and a Honda CBR 600 F4. While it's fair to say the sportscar and sportbike have a costume aspect, I have done sever track days with both of them, so I think I get some enthusiast credit.

It always seems that these jokers are talking on a cell phone, too.

What type of vehicle do you drive? Mine is a 1 ton 4X4 Black Dodge. If I want to merge, people are very cooperative.

>>whenever a driver honks at a car that doesn't begin to accelerate precisely when the light turns red, that driver invariably is a woman.<<

Get the bumper sticker that says,

Keep honking,
I'm reloading

I had a Nevada Highway Patrol officer pull up beside me on the freeway and start tapping his horn. beep, beep beep When I looked over he was laughing and cheering my bumper sticker.

Do the toll plazas have security camersa that record the tags of the cars that go thru them? Maybe they can trace the woman that way?

"Men are usually more aggressive, but that doesn't mean they are the only ones who are aggressive," said Jim Hoffheimer, president of the American Institute for Public Safety

****************

Men may be more aggressive, but they're better drivers.

I am a woman, by the way.

Yep, people feel safe in their cars. They do & say things they would never say to someones face. My man was recently flipped off by a woman repeatedly after SHE cut him off.

About 2 months ago, I was almost hit as some idiot cut in front of me at a red light because he did not want to wait to merge. I was turning right....he was in the lane to my left & just started moving up & over to force me to let him in. There was NO ONE in back of me either so if he'd waited for the light, he would have been able to get over safely. I was enraged & honked my horn, gave him the hi-beams and followed him. His next move was to try to make a right turn across a double line in heavy traffic so I gave him another honk. He started to get out of his car & I ripped off my seatbelt & jumped out of my car. He yelled at me "What are you doing?" I screamed at him "You think your too good to wait your turn at a light? You almost hit me and now your holding up traffic to make an illegal turn!!! He responded "Yes" to the first question & I went off on a rant filled with cursing & other nonsense. Not my best moment. I think my demeanor intimidated him a bit as he got back into his car & made the turn. He was a driving menace with an arrogant attitude. He deserved my anger....I just wish a cop had seen him making those moves.

and you drive a ?

Ordinarily a 2002 Toyota Prius, and when it's nicer weather, a 1985 BMW K100RT.

You've already confessed to using your truuck to intimidate other drivers.

Actually I am nopt one of those drivers who 'force' my way over. If I can I'll make eye contact and indicate that I would like to merge. I do use my turn signals. The other drivers are cooperative with these techniques.

I think you are ticked at the people driving small cars who jump over and cause you to hit the brake because now you're tailgating them.

Or maybe the drivers in Reno have better manners than those where you live.

Isn't there a bumper sticker that says: "I have PMS and a gun"?

"The chase ended near Clermont when the driver of a Toyota 4Runner tossed a disposable cup at Shannon Leslie Cooper, 24, who was driving a Ford Explorer."

Women are wearing cups now?

In the state of Michigan, one has to have a special driver's license for driving vehicles over 10,000 pounds or with 16 or more persons aboard. Similarly, one has to have an endorsement to drive a motorcycle.

I don't call for a ban on Silly Useless Vehicles. I do, however, call for a requirement for special training and licensing akin to the aforementioned before one can legally drive a Silly Useless Vehicle, due to their unique character and danger.

aparrently Sparks driver are a lot different than Phoenix and Denver drivers. I find a place to merge into, then get into position, then signal intent, then move over (quickly if they gunned it to close the opening) Just like in every other aspect of life, most are easygoing just trying to get where they're going, but increasingly common are the jerks who would literally kill you just to get one car ahead in the traffic jam........
