Today we salute you, Mr. Lava Lamp Heater Upper. Some men are satisfied with the slow undulation of a lazy lamp, but it's not bubbling fast enough for you. "Warp speed, Mr. Sulu!" you cry from the bridge of your starship. You're in search of the Mount St. Helens of lava lamps. Sure, it's risky, but did that stop Galileo or Louis Pasteur or Ron Popeil? So turn up the burner, Baron of the Bubbles. You play by only one rule, Mr. Lava Lamp Heater Upper: If you can't stand the heat, take out the kitchen.
And the lesson of "Never ask ten thousand FReepers for advice on your stuned beeber" was well worth the bandwidth. ; )
But your mention raises the category of the "black humor" threads--you know, those threads describing some Darwin Award candidate doing something "hold-muh-beer" stupid and losing his life or various body parts for it. There's a fine line between OK black humor and cold insensitivity. Usually only when the description of the act/scenario is funny in itself, do I make jokes. But I hope that those reading such threads realize it's only detachment and distance that allow such jokes. I'm sure all of us have human sympathy for the people who do the stupid things and their families, and we would express the same if we were there in person.
But, I mean . . . heating up a lava lamp on the kitchen stove?! Come on! Bwahahahaha. . . .
There was some article about sunspots posted from a major newspaper, where the writer said something like "The Sun has had a major impact on the earth's weather in the past." The responses to that were pretty funny.
It was a classic, I literally laughed until I cried. Another FReeper in my office CougarGA7 did the same.
Unless of course its about Hillary. At such an opportunity all rules of engagement are off.
"This latest analysis shows that the Sun has had a considerable influence on the global climate in the past, causing the Earth to warm or chill"
Glad we got that cleared up in 2004.
The translation thread from Der Spiegel was probably one of the most hilarious I've seen ("The thread that launched a thousand taglines"). I don't know how I missed that live the first time around!
Of course, any Caption thread ususally captures my attention, and JF'nK provided ample fodder for commentary this year. It's difficult to pinpoint any one in particular, but that pic of him hiking the football was a classic.
Your pings to these types of threads are always appreciated, as it seems I'm often late in the game in finding the choicest ones.
Why Kerry's handlers ever let him near a football or a soccer ball is beyond me. He had more dorky sports photos. . . .
"lowbridge scamming the Nigerian scammers. "
Agreed. Very funny.

This has to be my all time favorite! I caught this live and just watched and rode it out.

Lookit, the of him hiking the football wasn't a dorky sports photos.......that's Kerry appealing to his gay constituency (guffaw).
