For all the non-smokers out there that think smoking kills.........then why is Medicare starting this program?Aren't we all told that smoking KILLS? How long does the government want us to LIVE? And I thought Social Security was in such big trouble. You would think that the government would WANT us to die early to save on the SS!
What a crock of chit. Thompson might fool SOME of the people but he sure can't fool ALL of us!
The general public has to pay for the sick smokers? Maybe for the UNINSURED! This is ANOTHER lie!

It seems this program is at odds with itself. Longer life is jeopardizing the system and we have a program to increase the average life. The gubmint loses with either result. Sound familiar? I encourage everyone to live as good a life as possible. If smoking is a problem, the individual should quit. He does not need the gubmint to subsidize his desire.

the purpose of this program is to provide government funding to these phoney counseling groups - probably owned by friends and relatives of politicans.
A similar program, known here as ASAP, "helps" alcohol offenders. I'm sure there are also drug programs.
These are nothing more than "feel good" programs that do nothing but feed the greedy.

I just cannot imagine myself being counseled by some liberal do-gooder feminist about smoking. Especially since I hardly do smoke anymore, just when I feel like it.
Obviously, these nanny-staters can't find anybody who will voluntarily pay good money to listen to BS, so they have Medicare pay for it.
