I grew up in Southern California. We had Joe Pyne doing his "in your face" talk show on TV. We also had George Putnam reporting news and providing commentary ("This Reporter's Opinion.") I didn't hear it then but Reagan's RNC speech for Goldwater in '64 was about the same time. That was the other 60s, the one the Left doesn't remember.

At 14, I remember seeing Rush's TV show in the morning before I went to school. I thought he was cool since he made fun of stupid people. I think I was in seventh grade when Rush had the TV show. I never missed it -- had to stay up late to watch. With the rise of cable news I'm sure the show would have been more successful today.
I was the biggest Dittohead in those days. As a high school freshman, having planned it for weeks, I waited until finals in December (since with the half day I could make it home in time) to call the radio show on Open Line Friday. I dialed more than 100 times before I got through. My scout leaders who had started me listening were surprised to hear me on the show.
I still listen to the Maha-Rushie, though not every day, and without the obsessiveness I had as a young skull full of mush.
