ATLANTA - For more than 100 years the sound of Christmas in America has been from an army of bell ringers raising money for the Salvation Army.
For Willie Pickett in Atlanta, it's also about spreading Christmas cheer.
"I just love making people smile," says Pickett, a frequent bell ringer.

What about Circuit City (vs. Best Buy), Lowe's (vs. Home Depot) and Borders (vs. Barnes & Noble)? Do they have good SA policies?
Oh well ... with Scott Peterson out of the way, what can I say.
Scott is off the screen, right?
On a similar note, I wanted to play classical music outside the local CVS to earn money for the Baltimore Rescue Mission. THe manager agreed to ask corporate. I provided all of the information showing it was legitamate. I even explained that moneys donated would be used to purchase items within the store.
Yesterday, he explained that CVS does not allow solicitations "of any kind".
I then politely asked, "Several times during the summer, there were kids selling overpriced crap right outside the door."
I suspect, within six months, God will have His vengence. If CVS really prohibits this, they will be filing for bankruptcy. If this manager was lying, well, let's just say, I expect to see a sign, "UNDER NEW MANAGEMENT" soon enough.
Someone should start a Christian factor stock watch. Follow stocks and predict rises and falls based on how they treat God's people...anyone else notice that Levi-Strauss is now filing for bankruptcy? Remember when they removed their support for the Boy Scouts?
What do you mean by "all their fairy friends"?
The reason that Target is doing this is simple. The front of their stores is classified as a public space. If they allow SA to post people there then they cannot deny anyone from doing the same thing. For example there would be nothing to stop the KKK from canvassing for donations at the same spot...
Target's in a tough spot, they could have made a public donation to SA to make up for it though
And now, for the obligatory "White Sale" joke. "Last night, while putting up our Christmas decorations, my wife asked me why I wasonly hanging white lights on the tree, and left the colored lights in the box. I told her, 'Because the white ones are the only ones that work.' After which I turned red and excused myself from the festivities."
I understand all that, and I agree. Unfornately, neither you nor JCG answered my question. What do you mean by "all their fairy friends"?
What do you think I mean?
Boycott Levi's jeans & Dockers
Indeed, the reason is simple -- just not the reason you believe.
Wal*Mart has no difficulty letting the bell ringers ring so why should Target? Almost all the Target and other retail stores occupy private property, not "public space" as you claim.
Boycott Levi's jeans & Dockers
Because it appropriately describes the situation.
Boycott Levi's jeans & Dockers
Savvy marketing.
That said, I PREFFER stores that don't have the bell-ringers. I went to the Mall of America yesterday and couldn't believe there was a bell ringer in that area between the doorways they have in states that get really cold. It sort of surprised me.

What about Ebay, Overstock.com and Amazon.com?
What do you think I mean?
I should have expected that answer. Never mind.
Hmmm...this thread is very clearly titled. So why do you read and post to threads that obviously don't interest you?
Here's a friendly suggestion for you: Why don't you just stick to reading the things you think are important or fascinating and leave everyone else alone?
If the space is indeed public, and not Target property, how can Target prevent them from Soliciting?
How so? Please tell us the connection between fairies and Target's decision to not allow SA bell ringers.
He/She meant "homosexuals" but you knew that. It's been fairly well established that they've been pressuring Target to get rid of the SA for years. Looks like maybe the homo's didn't want to come out of the closet and take credit for this latest stunt of theirs until they finished off the Boy Scouts.
That's your perogative so go to the stores that don't allow them and stay away from those that do. That is also your perogative. Leave the rest of us to do the same.
Yes, I'm quite aware that JCG meant homosexuals. As for your "fairly well established" statement, can you back that up with a link? I've never heard of this.
That's right slick.
Perhaps you would have been more pleased had I stated that this post was posted numerous times before, and asked for it's removal.
Hey, if you're happy ... I'm thrilled.
I meant organized faggotry. Does that clear it up for you?

At the time you wrote this I had said nothing about sexual preference. Therefore, you make my point.
Target has caved to the homosexuals who hate the Salvation Army.

2. Boycott Giant Food. (Updated: And Safeway too!) They are letting Salvation Army ring their bells and collect money in their red kettles and have yet to address the Salvation Army's discriminatory policies towards the GLBT Community. Doesn't Giant Food ~AND~ Safeway have a non-discriminatory workplace policies that this violates the rights of any of their GLBT employees? Hello...? All it takes is just one employee to sue!
Please shop at stores that do not support the Salvation Army and in turn, violates the rights of their employees.

In a backhanded way, that is what I was trying to say...
The store chain Target has decided this Christmas to ban the Salvation Army from placing their bell ringers outside their stores to solicit funds for the wonderful work they do for our nation's most vulnerable. In my opinion, giving to the causes that the Salvation Army serves is a lot more about the Christmas season than the merchandise I buy from Target, so we are banning Target from our shopping until they change their policy banning the Salvation Army. If it takes them until next year, or the next, that is entirely Target's call. Join me in this effort by not shopping there, and encouraging your friends to do likewise. Then communicate this to Target at:
http://www.targetcorp.com/targetcorp_group/contactus/contact_general.jhtml
This is what I said:
"My family regularly shops at Target, yet the news that Target has banned the Salvation Army from soliciting donations this Christmas will change that. Like you, the Christmas season is their major source of revenues. They do an extraordinary amount of good for the nation's most vulnerable. The damage Target has inflicted upon that effort cannot be measured. I will not shop at Target until they change their policy toward the Salvation Army, and I will encourage my friends to do likewise. Please let me know when you change your policy."
Please pass this onto those in your address book & Merry Christmas!
