Protesters Urge Delay for Ohio Electors [crowd: 100, Stop or I shall be forced to say stop again]
AP via yahoo ^ | Dec 12, 2004 | JOHN McCARTHY

Posted on 12/12/2004 7:52:25 PM PST by Mike Fieschko

COLUMBUS, Ohio - As it has done for 200 years, Ohio's delegation to the Electoral College (news - web sites) is to meet Monday to cast ballots for president and vice president — but this time, there are demands that the electors wait until after a recount. A demonstration was held Sunday as about 100 people gathered outside the Ohio Statehouse to protest the delegation's vote.

The Electoral College's vote in the Ohio Senate chamber is expected to be accompanied by demonstrations outside the Capitol sponsored by groups who don't accept that President Bush (news - web sites) won the key swing state by 119,000 votes, guaranteeing his victory over Democrat John Kerry (news - web sites).

Led by a coalition representing the Green and Libertarian parties, the dissidents are paying for recounts in each of Ohio's 88 counties that will begin this week. The recount is not expected to be complete until next week.

"John Kerry conceded so early in the process that it's maddening," said Kat L'Estrange of We Do Not Concede, an activist group born after the election that believes Kerry was the real winner in Ohio and nationally.

L'Estrange, Susan Truitt of the Columbus-based Citizens Alliance for Secure Elections, and others demanded that the electoral vote be put off until the recount is completed.

"In Ohio, there has not been a final determination. Therefore, any meeting of the Electoral College in Ohio prior to a full recount would in fact be an illegitimate gathering," said John Bonifaz of the National Voting Rights Institute.

The dissidents claim there were disparities in vote totals for Democrats, too few voting machines in Democrat-leaning precincts, organized campaigns directing voters to the wrong polling place and confusion over the counting of provisional ballots by voters whose names did not appear in the books at polling places.

The Kerry campaign does not dispute that Bush won the election, but supports the Ohio recount. Kerry issued a statement Wednesday saying reported voting problems should be investigated to ensure there are no doubts in future elections.

Monday's Electoral College vote will follow the same script it has since 1804, when Ohio picked Thomas Jefferson, a Democratic Republican, over Federalist Charles C. Pinckney.

The electors will gather in the Senate chamber and cast votes for president, then vice president, on separate paper ballots. The ballots are counted by representatives of Secretary of State Kenneth Blackwell's office and then handed to Blackwell, who is the presiding officer of the electoral vote.

Blackwell then signs a "transmittal" of the vote total and sends it to the president of the U.S. Senate, who will announce the national total on Jan. 6.

Ohio's electors are a mix of GOP officials and others who are being rewarded for service to the party.

"It's a great honor to serve as a member of the Electoral College and it's a great honor to vote for President Bush," said Alex Arshinkoff, longtime chairman of the Summit County Republican Party who is an elector for the second straight meeting.

Karyle Mumper, chairwoman of the Marion County Republican Party, will be an elector for the first time. She, too, feels honored but believes the demonstrations outside will be a distraction.

"It's a shame they do not believe in the honesty and the professional people working the polls," said Mumper. "I just think they are sore losers and money and time (for the recount) could be spent on other things."

Interesting article today in the St. Pete Times.

A group of activists that didn't believe in the reliability of the touch screen machines, got permission to test the machines after the vote was certified.

They brought volunteers and voted for hours, then checked the tally on the machines against the votes they knew they had cast...surprise, surprise...no discrepancy.

Don't get worked up. We Republicans tend to go to church on a regular basis. For these sick people, this is their version of "church". This is their chance to get with their peers. They know they've lost - what they may not realize is just how close they are to being destroyed politically.

That's easy. What the code actually said was:

If November 2, 2004, then
Total Kerry Vote = 0.96*(Recorded Kerry Votes)
Total Bush Vote = 1.04*(Recorded Bush Votes)
If NOT November 2, 2004, then
Total Kerry Vote = 1.00*(Recorded Kerry Votes)
Total Bush Vote = 1.00*(Recorded Bush Votes)

That's how my buddies at Diebold did it.

(this theory should tie up the Dems for a while)

I predicted this. The idea here is that if the electors cast their vote before every vote (according to some) is counted (even though the vote is certified) then GWB was not elected but rather was selected again and his Presidency is fraudulent.

There is always a reason for the RDDBs to act out their mental illness in the face of reality.

You're using logic and trying to apply it to democrats...it won't work no matter how hard you try. These are the same people who screamed in 2000 that they were disenfranchised in Florida....while their own freaking party ran the county election boards.

Nothing they do makes any sense...hence you can't apply logic. This advice will save you countless headaches....and I won't even bill you for it....lol

Raving Democrat doofus what? If you have ever heard of Michael Savage, he uses the term, RDDB or red diaper doper baby to illustrate the middle aged former hippie that never grew up, who may have been a child of a leftist parent, did drugs, most notable of those, pot, and still has a jaundiced view of the world. He believes these folks are truly mentally damaged. I have a brother that fits the description to a tee. Although I managed to grow up from similar circumstances the only difference, I never did any drugs. It may not prove the point but it is worthy of conversation nevertheless.

DU is partying. Kerry sent a letter to the Board of Elections and it supposedly says that there are enough votes in Ohio to overturn the election.

Kerry Letter.....
to 88 Board of Electors Directors..That Kerry was calling for investigations into distribution of voting machines. Jackson and Kerry together drafted a letter, (1)pointed to 92,000 ballots where no votes were counted for president; (2) Some outside independent verification of the optical scanners of paper ballots; (3) Provisional Ballots: The level of votes that were rejected were twice the amount as in 2000, another anomaly, to be investigated.

It's post #14 here: DU Thread I can't believe that Err America is leading these people on like this. Yup, that's where they heard it. DUers are delusional and jumping for joy. Tomorrow will be awful for them.

The good news about the "we was robbed" scenario is that it completely distracts them from fixing problems in the party and they live on in their delusion that their candidate really won.

Therefore, nothing changes, and they keep losing elections.

Having just spent the day with one of the poll counters from Fairfield County, the saddest part of all this is that the cost of the recount is going to come out of the budgets of the various counties. Few of them can afford the added expense, so it looks like (to us--that is, me and the poll-counter) a form of punishing all of those red Ohio counties who dared vote for W by denuding their treasuries. There's a slim to nil chance that any ambulance chaser or the A$$hole Commie Liars Union will offer pro bono work to get this to the Ohio Supreme Court. So it looks like Bush supporters in Ohio are just going to have to swallow no snow plowing, road repairs, maintenance etc. While the low-life turds in Kleeblen, Klumbus and Snickernasty can sit back and laugh at the hicks in the sticks.
The operative term here is Kerry conceded...get it...he gave up...he said he lost...get a life you liberal swine!
Head for Canada, you deserve each other...better yet, head for Rwanda, they need all the population they can get...

Ohio has no choice in the matter:

US Constitution, Art. II, sec. 1:
"The Congress may determine the Time of chusing the Electors, and the Day on which they shall give their Votes; which Day shall be the same throughout the United States."

3 USC Ch. 1, Sec. 7:
"The electors of President and Vice President of each State shall meet and give their votes on the first Monday after the second Wednesday in December next following their appointment at such place in each State as the legislature of such State shall direct."

Speaking of Jesse Jackson, he claimed he had "Moral Clarity" to scream for this recount.

Bill Cunningham of WLW Radio (THE BIG ONE) in Cincinnati interviewed Jackson on his show on December 2nd, and when Jackson said he had Moral Clarity, Cunningham then asked if he had "Moral Clarity," why did he (Jackson) have extra-marital sex with a couple of women who later had babies made by Jackson. Jackson then just hung up the phone, and the interview was over.
