The gap in your understanding has to do with who you view God to be. He is God. The great I AM. His ways are not our ways, His thoughts are not our thoughts. We are here for His glory, & not vice-versa. Dear Friend, I refer you back to Catechism quest. #1, & Romans 8:18. As far as Juliana specifically, as I mentioned, I have a daughter the same age. A child their age knows when it has a hurt, but does not comprehend whether it is "suffering." As a child with a situation like Juliana's grows older & understands life more, whether she feels she is "suffering" will have everything to do with the perspective that her parents and others (therefore we should be careful) lead her in. If I was able, I would have put "perspective" & "lead" in italics. When Juliana comprehends one day (in this lifetime or in Glory) how lovingly, devotedly, & adoringly her parents cared for her thru all the "suffering" she's being "made to endure"; how many(italics) have cared for her with their gifts, prayers, and, yes, even their money; how God used her to impact the lives of others; she will easily realize the vessel she was, and how it (her "suffering")was all small in comparison (Romans 8:18). I wonder, Hildy, if it's not really you who is suffering to see her that way. She is blessed(italics)! Rejoice over this baby!

For one thing, I'm Jewish. I respect your beliefs and I hope you respect mine. But quite frankly, to say she is blessed is a bit over the top. I wish you well.

Come on, Hildy. Someone already mentioned it many posts ago - she has a blessed existence to have the loving parents she has, devotedly caring for her. I'm not sure what being Jewish has to do with it all. According to the post where you mentioned Purpose-driven Life, it seems you agree that we are vessels for God's glory. You don't seem to be sharing your spiritual beliefs otherwise... the problem really comes in when we begin to entertain the idea of euthanasia - who decides whether a person is suffering?; maybe a person who is deemed to be suffering either does not agree with that "diagnosis" (that perspective thing again)(and yes, who decides for infants? {doctors in Scandinavia think they're the ones entitled}), or worse, the door is now opened for those in "authority" to determine a life worthy of being euthanised because...this life will be a burden to care for...this life will cost society great amounts of money...and the list carries on with reasons one can only begin to imagine within the dark recesses of the mind...

This conversation has been carrying on, Hildy, because apparently you believe Juliana Wetmore should have been euthanised. I'm sure her parents would be aghast at your prerogative. Really, shame on you.
