WITH the CBS News investigation of Memogate almost done, Mary Mapes, the producer who obtained the fake memos used in Dan Rather's George Bush-bashing report, is fighting to save her job and her reputation. The sleuths at ratherbiased.com report Mapes wrote up a 68-page statement in her own defense and has been lobbying to convince the CBS probers that Rather's exposé on Bush's National Guard service was accurate, even if the documents obtained from a crackpot Texas Democrat were bogus. Rather acted preemptively by quitting as the "Evening News" anchor.

Try that in court.
Your Honor. Even though all my own examiners claim the deed is fake it is still accurate. I really should get Trumps fortune. Doesn't matter he hasn't even died yet.

Mary Mapes, the poster child for Hillary in 08.
CBS will keep her on, I am willing to bet on it.
She will be portrayed as a courageous journalist, just doing her job.
Viacom will never admit to the American public what their agenda truly is.

CBS will keep her on, I am willing to bet on it.I don't think so. In situations like this, they need a sacrificial lamb. A fall guy. (Or in this case, a fall girl.) Everything will be blamed on Mary Mapes, and darling Dan will be put out to pasture in a blaze of glory.

And let's not forget Heyward. He's gotta go too. Once Rather publicly apologizes for slandering the President with forged documents, accounts should be square.

Wooooo (shudder).
CBS should do the honorable thing, like Admiral Boorda, and put Mapes in the anchor chair.
To: kattracks
Mary Mapes is as relevant to the world of factual news as the checkout clerk at my local grocery.
Ditto for Mr. Rather and Mr. Heyward. And Viacom, for that matter.,

She spent five years chasing the story. What was the purpose? It was to do damage to the president and help the DemocRAT. It was agenda-driven journalism. She should be out on her butt. Why didn't she report on John Kerry in Paris negotiating with the commies? What about his phony reports for purple hearts? What about the frauds at the Winter Soldier hearings? She did none of those.

Flashback
Father Says CBS 'Rathergate' Producer Mapes Had An Ax to Grind
But Mapes' father sees a political agenda behind his daughter's work. Don Mapes, 76, was a recent guest on a radio talk show hosted by John Carlson on KVI in Seattle.
He said, "I'm really ashamed of what my daughter has become. She's a typical liberal. She went into journalism with an ax to grind, and that was to promote radical feminism."

I could be wrong but in my mind this woman is more guilty than Dan. She's the one that put it all together and presented it to Dan and he was the idiot that bought it. His own Ego and Hate for Bush did him in. She has to go no matter what.
To: Bonaparte
Once Rather publicly apologizes for slandering the President with forged documents, accounts should be square.Absolutely Not !
Rather should have been suspended as soon as the scandal broke.
He came back and made a second try at W. Remember the Al Qa Qa flap? That was good old Dirty Dan in action again.
My own opinion is that the White House should have pulled the press credentials for CBS.
To: kattracks
How is it that she's still drawing a check from CBS in the first place?

His own Ego and Hate for Bush did him in. She has to go no matter what. You are not wrong. On TV magazine shows, the producers are the ones who do 90% of the work. This was Mapes's baby from start to finish; Dan would never even have heard of the "memos" if it weren't for her.
If this were an episode of "Law & Order," Dan would be the accessory who gets immunity about 20 minutes into the show in exchange for his testimony, while Mapes would be the master criminal, fighting and screaming for the rest of the hour until she finally gets convicted and sent off for 25 to life.
Well, assuming Dan would ever admit to having done anything wrong in the first place, anyway.
To: CurlyDave
I agree. A lot of things
should have happened. He should have been arrested for interfering with a federal election. He and CBS should have been sued for slander by the Bush family. FCC should have revoked CBS' broadcast license for their conspiracy to interfere in the election.
Realistically, though, we're not going to see any of this happen, are we?

He said, "I'm really ashamed of what my daughter has become. She's a typical liberal. She went into journalism with an ax to grind, and that was to promote radical feminism." That's kind of intense, for a father to publicly diss his daughter. Probably didn't go over real well in the Mapes family.

No doubt on company time using CBS resources.
Mapes, even more than Rather, must go. If not, CBS has zero integrity and believability.

Zogby Defense!
To: kattracks
Mapes wrote up a 68-page statement in her own defenseI would LOVE to read this. I'll bet every crackpot who has made the false allegations is cited as "evidence" that the story is true even though the documents are faked.
She'll get canned but have sympathizers aplenty in the media so will continue to try to push her agenda in some other way in some other venue, is my prediction.
To: kattracks
The report's accuracy is exceeded only by her exceptionally good looks.
