To all the naysayers on this thread: The primary is the time and place to go after Dreier. What is this handwringing and whimpering that we might get a Democrat so we have to put up with being stabbed in the back?!? It's Orange County. If we can't get a strong conservative elected there, it's time to give up and crawl home. Evidently, it's more than the Republican members of Congress who need to grow a spine.

I think John and Ken are out to lunch for whupping it up against DDreier.

I've come to the conclusion that their crusade against Dreier is personal for J&K. Doesn't have anything to do with politics, although illegal immigration is the peg they hung their hats on. One congressman doesn't mean a hill of beans in a struggle as difficult as the one against illegal immigration.

I think what matters now is that we all vigorously support Sensenbrenner in the next congress.

The House Republicans could pass the best bill we could ever dream of, yet it would fail in the Senate, where Dems have the power of the filibuster. The northeast liberal Republicans would support them. They don't owe their jobs to us, so the defeat (if you could even pull it off) of one Republican congressman from California would have little effect.

The very best thing we could do now is vigorously support Sensenbrenner and his House coalition, then fight like hell to get whatever they can get out of the House passed in the Senate.

This assault brings two quick reactions:

1)Those who don't live in California haven't a firm idea of the destruction that illegal immigration has wreaked on the state on will wreak on our nation.
2)California is in its current mess because party loyalist, such as yourself, have allowed their leaders to sweep the issue under the carpet for 50 years in order to maintain or increase party influence.

My response to your comment is that Republican loyalists should concentrate on cleaning up their own party instead of criticizing those who are responsible and adult enough to volunteer to clean it up for them. Getting rid of fellows like Dreier and Schwarzenegger at the primary level is a good first step.
