Will Bush clean out the Beka Valley? I wouldn't call his bluff.
To: JBlain
Who would stop him if he wanted to do this?
Still, I think he'll move pretty slowly.

Shocking!! The next thing you know we'll find out that Russia tried to rig the election in the Ukraine. Or maybe Barry Bonds was on steroids!!

Syria shares the same political party as Saddam's. It wouldn't be surprising at all to see a level of cooperation before and after the war.
Do what it takes to eliminate it.

I suppose we are going to hear there are new suspicions that Iran may be trying to exert influence as well.
Sheeeeshhh, Matt get a life.
I suppose that religious zealotry might be playing a part as well.

I've been saying this since the "insurgency" started. It didn't take long for the Syrians and Iranians to realize the left and the MSM had hamstrung Bush and the Bush Doctrine with their "no WMDs" mantra...
Oh, and I would add that well we have something of a truce with Iran they *directly* control Sadr and his boys too...

Syria.
Iran is much bigger and has lots of mountains and rugged terrain.
OTOH, if we invade Syria, or let Israel, I think Iran will get the hint...

The only good Ba'athist is a dead Ba'athist.

Syria and Iran recently signed a defense pact.
There's a good chance that if you invade one you get the other.
That's said, Syria is the smaller and could be captured quickly. The people of Iran would welcome the US more than Syria, but because of it's size we would get more fight.

The Bekaa valley is a particularly nasty place (although it's in Lebanon, not Syria) - if we have to clean the place out it will be a very dirty job. And I think we'd have to take out Syria first. Israel from the south, Turkey from the north, and us from the east.
Only in my dreams. But then, I said that about Iraq, too.
To: JBlain
The Palestinian Authority sends terrorists there too. I read a report in the Israeli media today which said US forces arrested 10 Palestinian Arabs in Baghdad.
