Edwards hints at future in farewell speech
NJ.com ^ | 11/29/04 | Paul Nowell

ASHEVILLE, N.C. (AP) — Greeted by an enthusiastic crowd, John Edwards kicked off a farewell tour as U.S. senator Monday but left little doubt he wasn't saying goodbye to politics.

"One thing you can count on is that this fight is not over," the former vice presidential candidate told supporters. The visit to western North Carolina's largest city was the first of six stops Edwards plans across the state over three days.

"It's just good to be home," Edwards said after arriving more than an hour late for the rally. "My blood pressure goes down when I cross the line into North Carolina."

Edwards, 51, had given up a bid for a second Senate seat when he sought the Democratic presidential nomination himself, before becoming Kerry's running mate. He will leave the Senate in early January. Republican Richard Burr won the election for Edwards' seat earlier this month, defeating Democrat Erskine Bowles.

[snip]

"In order for us to unite the country ... those voters have to believe that our values — my values and the values of other Democratic leaders — are the same values they believe in. That means we have to be touching them, reaching out to them."

Edwards said he will continue to give speeches around the country and may publish another book. He also plans to build a new home near Chapel Hill. And even without a forum in the Senate, he plans to keep a high profile.

"I have to sort my way through all of that stuff and figure out what makes the most sense and what's the best way to fight for these things I care about," he said.

I feel sorry for Edward's wife being sick.

My only question is...what doctor in his right mind is going to treat the wife of America's #1 trial lawyer?

John Edwards kicked off a farewell tour as U.S. senator

Since when do senators have "farewell tours?" Who does he think he is, Cher?

"It's just good to be home," Edwards said after arriving more than an hour late for the rally.

The sob doesn't even have the courtesy to be on time. I guess he's tasking etiquette lessons from Clinton.

Re his giving up his Senate seat: The conventional wisdom was that he was going to lose. I wish Kery had the class that Bob Dole exhibited in givng up his seat and his position as Senate majority leader when he declared.

Yes, we know, and he grew up to be the SOB trial lawyer that chased many of the good ob-gyn doctors out of his state. He deprived many women of good doctors who wouldn't put up with the increased insurance premiums due to his fradulent malpractice lawsuits that made him a multi-millionare. Check out the background on his first major malpractice lawsuit, for instance.

How can you say that?< /sarcasm>

'My Little Pony' couldn't carry his own precinct, let alone his state or any other Southern state. He was shuffled off to the boondocks in the waning days of the election because his mouth was such an embarrassment. "Christopher Reed would get up and walk", etc.

Actually, had Bush carried all the other states he carried, he still would have gotten 271 electoral votes even without NC. Of course, had Kerry-Edwards carried NC, which went to Bush-Cheney by 12.4%, they would have probably carried 10 other Bush states and won 375 electoral votes.

This jackass has the nerve to keep people waiting for an hour. He still doesn't get it. Nor do any of the other democrats for that matter.

Let me splain sumpnother to you Johnny Boy. You ain't special. If it is your goal to get people to vote for you, I'd strongly suggest you learn that voters, silly as we are, expect, no make that demand, to be treated with dignity and respect.

I know, I know, this is a concept that is beyond your ability to comprehend, so just take your liberal pompous ass back to the trial lawyer business.

Dear Senator:
The best thing you can do is take care of your family right now. Your wife is in a fight for her life, and she and your children deserve your undivided attention. You have worked for years to build your fortune, and you are lucky that in this difficult time you have the option of refraining from work. Should the Lord bless your wife with a positive prognosis we will be glad to pick up the debate in full at a later date.

Until then you have my prayers, and should you do the right thing by your family you will gain a measure of respect from this conservative.

How any Americans could ever of thought My Little (sorry silky) Pony could have had aspirations to the great Statesman Dick Cheney's job beggar's belief. Though I suppose to some he is as cute as a button. Myself I just shudder at the thought.

Also on a lighter note effeminate posing Edwards was not attractive, sexy or had better hair than your manly testosterone oozing VP.

He ran for president in the first place and did not run for reelection because the wise people of North Carolina had already let it be known that he had no chance of being reelected, unlike Joe Lieberman. Edwards, like his running mate, was a failed, do nothing Senator. Unlike the Bay Staters, the North Carolinians cared.
