The good deacon is probably assuming that the word was used adjectively or as the past participle. In which case, such usage would be perfectly correct.
Blessed = consecrated; Oxford English Dictionary.
Given that good grammar, like catechesis, is not his strong suit, it is unlikely that he had considered the use of the verb in the 3rd person, preterite tense of the transitive form.
But, heh, be thankful that you didn't use Latin. Lord knows the butchering job he'd have done on that.
Also, for what it's worth, I've always thought that you were not stupid too. Until, that is, you disagree with old loud-mouth. Then it's obvious that:

For anyone to claim that hell is empty flies in the face of right reason, scripture, the writings of the saints & Doctors of the church, as well as the visions granted to certain saints and other priviledged souls (i.e. the children/seers of Fatima).
But whta is does wonderfully is to promote the agenda of the Evil One, and the anti-church partisans who serve him, many of whom wear backwards collars.
I believe that the Church's teaching applies to a priest that has some doubt about what he's doing but does not apply to a priest who clearly intends the opposite of what the Church intends. I also believe the Church has been infiltrated by atheists and the presumption of intent cannot so easily be granted.

But while the satanist in the Black Mass can torture and degrade Christ again, and take pleasure in it, he cannot take away the triumph of the cross. Never. He merely repeats the torture of the physical body.... As Christ allowed his physical body to be assailed in His Passion, so he allows [his physical body to be assailed] in both the Eucharist ...Just to clarify: Does Christ feel the present-day assaults by satanists on his body as he felt the assaults by the executioners on his body during the Passion?
