National Treasure Restores Values to Disney (Vanity)

Posted on 11/21/2004 1:32:41 PM PST by dannyboy72

Sorry for the Vanity, but my wife and I attended the movie National Treasure with another couple on Saturday evening and I think that everyone needs to go to this film. This film is very well made and a true family vilm that will get your kids (and yourself) excited about American History. It's been a long time since I left the theatre feeling good about the message of a movie.

I'm posting this fully expecting to get railed, but I think we can tell hollywood with our money that these are the kind of films that Americans want to see made. It's time for hollywood to inspire the values of this country, rather than trying to lower those values to meet some perverted agenda.

I have purchased 100 shares of Disney's stock and written them a very nice email. I encourage others to see this movie and let them know your thoughts as well.

I don't support the Hollywood left by seeing their movies.

I have not seen the movie, but I am excited to see a movie that brings up the subject of out Founding Fathers. I think that they are not mentioned enough today in the high school history curriculum and anything that can spur the interest of people in my generation to learn more about the foundation of America is a good thing.

Thanks much for the post; I was curious about this film to know if it was worth the bother to see it.

In today's bizzare-o world, I can imagine a company the likes of Disney making a film to 'document' homosexuality amongst the founding fathers. /sarc

You should be checking to see if it is in fact historically accurate. Many years ago, Eisner hired a Commie who worked diligently to get anything historic or patriotic out of Disneyland. His first target was getting rid of the talking abraham Lincoln. I would doubt anything done under Eisner's regime.

It was a good film that had a good message and more of them do need to be made with positive messages.

I saw the film this weekend also and thought It was a pretty good film. Had a lot history on the Founding Fathers and the treasure clues were very well done.
It was also good old fashioned escapism which is what the public wants right now. Nothing to serious and something you can take the family to. I saw a lot families at the showing I went to and everyone was having a good time watching this film. No dirty language just a great adventure.
I noted in the Friday papers the reviews were so so but what do those guys know it was a really nice film. Serious pictures are not what the public seems to want right now, they want comedy, adventure and escapism which is why "National Treasure", "The Incredibles and "Shark Tale" are doing well. Nothing too complicated.
Any serious pictures coming down the pike this Holiday Season are likely to find a luke warm reception.

It was historically accurate as to the plot of the film. Nothing more. It was just a pure adventure escapism movie I recommend it.

Your far off base here as nothing like that was in the picture.

The movie previews piqued my interest, but I was a bit wary of the whole freemasonry aspects of it.

I sort of feel the same way about Cage. Nearly every film I've seen of Cage, he is a whiney, 'poor me' character.

I like the films; I just can't take his whiney, 'poor me'.

Yeah, I saw it with my two kids this afternoon and it was very entertaining. It had enough history to raise some questions, but not so much that it seemed dry or cluttered by too much data.

To those who wont see it because it is from DEisnery, ah, come on and give it a shot; when things move our way we should patronize them. Think of it as DEisnery being sort of like PAvlov's dog and your giving them a treat for getting it right for once.

And, what the heck is a 'vanity'? I have seen it used a bit around here; is it simply a non'event oriented post?

The movie was fun, not great, but pretty good and worthwhile for the American spirit alone.

You know, it's admirable that some of you boycott all hollywood movies made and acted in by lefties. But I submit that those people have god-given talents that they utilize in wonderful ways, and it's becoming more and more clear that America loves them for their acting and NOT their politics. All the money George Soros and Michael Moore threw at the election this year actually did more harm to the Dems than good.

If you enjoy movies, consider paying for movies with lefty actors instead of boycotting them. If everyone boycotted half the products and services in this economy because of political disagreements, we'd all be the lesser. Maybe saving your boycotts for more specific situations and issues would be more effective.

We just went and saw "The Incredibles" today. Excellent film. There were a ton of small kids there; I recommend it for the whole family.

It's a Disney/Pixar film. Actually the first Disney film I have patronized since "The Lion King."

Who knows? Maybe Disney has seen the light. Eisner isn't out yet, but I suspect he is losing control over the decisions. He has been a truly malign influence.

I rarely go to the movies; this was my first visit to a theater since "The Passion of the Christ."

Yup, I won't spend money on anything that promotes the Freemasons

from a movie review -
" Foundational to the back-story of this treasure-hunting adventure isThe Knights Templar (further popularized in Dan Brown’s novel The Da Vinci Code), a group that inspired the influential fraternity known as Freemasonry. Much is made of the fact that America’s founding fathers were Freemasons, and the story supposes that they hid a vast fortune in a subterranean vault so that it wouldn’t corrupt their new nation or its leaders. Freemasonry is portrayed as a noble sect full of mystery and intrigue."
