A Falls Church man who worked as a federal informant on terrorism set himself on fire in front of the White House yesterday, hours after announcing his suicide attempt and citing his growing despondency over how the FBI managed his case.
Mohamed Alanssi, 52, approached the northwest guardhouse on Pennsylvania Avenue about 2:05 p.m. and asked the security detail to deliver a note to President Bush. When uniformed Secret Service officers turned him away, he stepped about 15 feet from the guard post and used a lighter to ignite his jacket, according to the U.S. Park Police.

I would have respected him more if he had cut his own head off, following the example of his brethren in Iraq.

The link you provided is a different story from a different source. Not a duplicate post/story by any stretch of the imagination.

Something about his story just doesn't pass the smell test, IMO. What if it's all faked? In order to....garner public support, anger the public over the administrations treatment of informants.....??

I think the smell is the Washington Post.

Maybe, but informants often have very conflicted feelings.

What does that even mean, "worked as a federal informant?"
They call full time federal informants "Spies," although he could be a informant on domestic terror cells.
And the WAPO knew & verified this how?
Besides, if this is the caliber of our "informants," then I need a drink. We are in more trouble than I had thought.

Alanssi said he could not travel to his native country because he has no money Dude...I can relate. My vacations have been limited to camping out in the back of my pick-up truck while it was parked in my driveway. So what's your scam? Just how were you expecting to get paid for an international trip? I want in...

I think this man was treated shabbily. It is a real possibility. However he was basically being bribed for his testimony.

If a guy from Yemen helps the FBI, I really doubt he would make it public AND seek to go back to Yemen. That would just be suicide.
