I love the fact that Bush is putting minorities in the highest positions.... it has to drive the liberals nutz. I want Clearance Thomas as the Chief Justice.

I think it might just help his chances. If he gets confirmed as AG, would it not make a better case for him to be moved to SCOTUS? I think it would be odd to send the same guy up to the Senate twice in a very short time. We will see however.

I don't know anything about him, but it seems to be a wise choice. It will take ammo from the dims because the new Bush cabinet will look more like the country. A Hispanic in the AG slot, blacks in the SoS, and Security Advisor roles. When the Chief Justice position opens, move Clearence Thomas there. Then name a Hispanic for Thomas's seat. The dims would go crazy. They couldn't say anything because W did it first. X42 could have done it, but he missed his chance for history. Another major pack to the dims.

How 'bout the Second Amnendment? Does he support the individual right (i.e. CORRECT) interpretation of the Second Amendment? Will he act on it?

Doesn't he have a rather large paper trail following him
around? Might be something there the dems could latch onto.

Do you also "love" the fact that Gonzalez supports enacting "diversity" into the law permanently and was behind the sell-out in the Michigan case?
To: STARWISE
Gonzalez is a good man. Very good choice. Viva Bush!!

I didn't like many of his rulings on the Texas SC. But if President Bush believes in him...and believes he'll continue where Ashcroft left off...I support him!!!

Not Necessarily: He served in both position in Texas....He may not be the first appointee but appointed after he's done his job as AG.
Prior to working with the president in the White House, Gonzalez served as Bush's secretary of state and as his legal counsel in Texas. He was a Bush appointee to the Texas Supreme Court and the second Hispanic to serve in the position.

I prefer him as the AG than on the SCOTUS. That's where I am with it. WSJ and others were attacking him as too wishy washy to be a solid choice for the SC. AG keeps that off the table for now. I have no idea how he'll do there.

I thought similarly. If he's the guy (and I think he is), I was concerned about talk of him possibly being appointed as Chief Justice of the SC. This is a common mistake, in fact it's more commonly written this way than the correct way. But the position is called Chief Justice of the United States.
(I'm not picking on you, BibChr, this is just one of my pet peeves.)

I highly doubt Racicot is pro-abort. It may not be an issue he talks about a great deal, but given what I know about him, I'd wager he comes down on the pro-life side.

"I think it would be odd to send the same guy up to the Senate twice in a very short time."
The key part of this is "short time"." I don't think we will see three SCOTUS members resign this January. I would expect that some will stick around until the end of Bush's second term. His nomination to the SC would be a great battle to be in durring the 2008 elections.

I've met Racicot. He's young and hip and a little bit taken with himself and being in the circles of power, and doesn't have time for little people. He is not what you would call a powerful moral force.

Anger? I presented a factual argument. If you believe Gonzalez was right in defending the Supreme Court's decision in the Michigan case, present some facts to back up your case?
