The purpose of the post was plainly stated, "This post is to counter Rush's rare defalcation and remind his listeners of the importance of acting now to eliminate Senator Specter before he assumes the Chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee and does great mischief to any pro-life nominee" and was not meant to parse Rush's words without benefit of transcript. The point was to (re)stimulate debate about the Specter chaimanship and to derail it.

By the way, I meant to say "declension" not "defalcation" in describing Rush's rare departure from the path of truth and the American way. Please forgive my declension.

Actually, I did not read Oliphant that way. He seemed to make the case that l'affaire Specter is important to conservatives in a detached way as though he were looking at bug in a petri dish.

I think this is the essence of his observations:

"The hearings process for judges is not really at issue here; what is at issue are Specter's votes on the floor and his vigor in opposing the occasional Democratic effort to block votes on judges whose background they consider extreme. Some conservatives believe there are few limits on how far Specter will go to assure his position."

Rush's "schtick" is that false bravado.

I listened to the first five minutes and turned the program off. It is like having everyone sit down for Thanksgiving and Uncle Bob starts expelling gas. You lose any of the appetite that you had before

But Hannity is far, far worse than Rush. The whole world revolves around Sean. If he didn't have himself to talk about, he'd only have a fifteen minute program.

Btw, Hugh Hewitt is in Denver today to be the keynoter for _______ and Friday, he'll be in Washington DC to speak to _________"

WOW!!!!

All these talk show hosts are SO important!!! Not like us mere mortals. It is amazing they find time in their busy schedules to host a program.

I'd like to post more but I need to hop on a plane to fly to Washington because Senator Frisk wants to confer with me about Arlen Spector. After that, I'll have dinner with Cheney to go over a few things.

I don't think Rush and others care about abortion, they are just glad to have the issue. I don't care about what happens to Specter (he should drop dead) but if we get another Souter on the Court or stab another Bork in back, I'll change my registration and I'll never vote Republican again!

have said before that if it were Toomey v. Specter, I'd go Specter.

I don't think you've recovered enough.

CORRECTION CORRECTION CORRECTION!

I really am sorry, Sloth....I mis-typed....given the choice between Toomey and Specter, I'd have voted for TOOMEY. Given the choice between Specter and a typical RAT I'd vote for Specter.

Shew. I can't believe I typed what I did....

I still stand by my statement that I've recovered enough. :) I don't see the need to get into a protracted fight over Specter's chairmanship. He has supported ALL of Bush's appointees. Democrats have been the ones stopping the nominees.

BTW, does it surprise you that Rush is waivering on a subject that is not about bombing Iraqis?

I'm not sure I follow your cynicism.

You have to understand how incredibly facetious I was being in saying Savage is all about the listeners. Savage is all about Savage, all the time. Rush is a gentleman and always respectful of his callers, something Savage will never be, and something the left will never know.

No doubt! I've seen them bashing Hannity but didn't think they'd stoop to bashing Rush... Who are they? Log Cabin Republicans?

I'm glad to hear it, John. I have heard defenders of Savage (who I can listen to, but he goes off into Morton Downey, Jr. territory a little too much for my liking) say similar things.

Rush is not a conservative, he is a Republican Party lap dog. I believe that if he was as vocal in denouncing the President for spending or Medicare or CFR or supporting the renewal of the assault weapons ban, etc. as he is for going to war, then it might be fair to call him a conservative. The Spector issue is a slam dunk. He should not be chairman, period. Why is there any debate at all about this among conservatives? It does not surprise me that Rush is wavering because he takes his marching orders from the RNC. Apparently someone told him to back off.

Poor Rush... guy never wants to make a choice between being Republican and being conservative, because his audience is half of each.

I'm sure that someone with a weekly audience of 20 million will be eager for the penetrating analysis of someone named thoughtomator posting on a Free Republic thread.

Here in Houston, they've been running Savage at 6:00p for the last year or so. I'm getting very sick of him. I think they're going to dump him in a couple of days. The other talk station used to run Michael Reagan opposite him and that was nice but now they have some lame local finance show. I like a little hyperbole and I agree with him a lot that we aren't alarmed enough about the things that are happening to the country, but he wrings his hands when things go wrong, and he isn't nearly as bright as he thinks he is.
