Former CBSNEWS anchorman Walter Cronkite believes Bush adviser Karl Rove is possibly behind the new Bin Laden tape.

Cronkite made the startling comments late Friday during an interview on CNN.

Cronkite said he is "inclined to think that Karl Rove, the political manager at the White House, who is a very clever man, he probably set up bin Laden to this thing."

Interviewer Larry King did not ask Cronkite to elaborate on the provocative election eve accusation.

You couldn't be more wrong. The Clintons and the Cronkites became fast friends during Clinton's second term as president. Cronkite helped to introduce the Clintons to many of the old guard Democrats who have the deep pockets and strong networks.

i was at my only rat friend's house watching football today and he ask me what i thought of OBL injecting himself into the election... i told him that it was all a big october surprise set up by Carl Rove and he was behind it all of it.

my friend's jaw dropped and said "you really think that... you ADMIT that???"

I saw Cronkite at a McGovern rally in '72. He appeared to be there as a camp follower rather than a reporter. He simply managed to keep his fringe left politics hidden from the viewing public, as did Hugh Downs, another hard left media crank "trusted" by America.

Poor Walter. It is so sad to see a man with such a distinguished career slowly loose it in public.
His recent comments at the Spina Bifida Association of America banquet, while provoking a chuckle were also not in character with a former member of the board at CBS.
It seems that old curmudgeons like Walter are like billionaire widows, nobody will tell them that they are making fools of themselves. Somebody please put a toddy in his hand and confine his comments to a few old buddies at the wisk table.
