Kobach campaign will keep donation from gun-rights advocate The Associated Press

Wednesday, September 15, 2004

Kansas City, Mo. — Kris Kobach on Tuesday rebuffed a challenge from his Democratic opponent for Congress, U.S. Rep. Dennis Moore, to return a campaign contribution made by a gun-rights advocate with ties to white supremacists.

"Absolutely, we're going to keep it," said Kobach campaign manager Todd Abrajano of the $3,000 contribution.

The Republican candidate for Kansas' 3rd Congressional district earlier had said he didn't see a reason to return the money and accused Moore of smear tactics.

Moore's request came after a radio station noted Larry Pratt, executive director of Gun Owners of America, had in the past spoken to groups that included white supremacists and right-wing militias.

"Congressman Moore is a gun owner and supports the Second Amendment. But this is not about the Second Amendment," said Moore campaign manager Julie Merz in a written statement issued Monday. "(The) report clearly outlined the Gun Owners of America's extremist agenda and the questionable background of Larry Pratt."

Pratt, who in 1996 briefly stepped aside as co-chairman of Pat Buchanan's presidential campaign because of his dealings with supremacists, denies that he is a racist. He added that he and his wife taught bilingual Bible classes to Hispanics.

The questions center on Pratt speaking at a 1992 meeting in Estes Park, Colo., that included members of the Aryan Nation and other extremists. He also attended militia meetings and a meeting of Christian Identity in Branson, Mo., three days after the bombing of the federal building in Oklahoma City.

In 1996, he also said that Gun Owners of America had donated to a law firm that represented Aryan Nation members. He said contributions were for a class-action lawsuit on behalf of Branch Davidians, who fought federal agents in Waco, Texas.

"I have spoken to groups where I am quite sure there were people that were racist there," he said. "I have also spoken to and been at meetings with people who are part of the ACLU."

Kobach said that Moore, to be consistent, should return contributions from any labor union whose leaders spoke to a meeting that included members of organized crime.

I hope the Gun Owners of America sue these Leftist bastards for this slander and libel. How many iterations deep did the Leftists have to dig to make this spurious claim? More than seven, I'll wager.

Dennis Moreon has just run himself out of Kansas politics. This will hit the fan hard.

Kris Kobach answered this white supremacist charge in his debate Sunday with Dennis Moore. Apparently the white supremacist who was involved with this anti-illegal immigration group was also involved with Planned Parenthood and the Sierra Club--both of which have donated heavily to Moore.

Also at the debate, the Reform Party candidate endorsed Kobach at the end. Kobach's supporters in the audience stood up and cheered while Moore supporters looked "crushed." (At least, that's what someone told me.)

I watched the commercial twice to make sure. It was on channel 62 during Frasier. I still can't believe what I saw. How are they polling down there?

I watched the debate too.
The true reality of the charge can best be identified by the KCPT moderator's reaction to Moore's rebuttal (in which he reaffirmed that Kris took donations from a White Supremacist).
The camera panned over after Moore concluded, you could see the look of disbelief on his face (and im 99% sure he's a liberal...).

I have talked to many who believe Kris won't win because Moore is so 'entrenched'. However, I was thinking about this attack that Moore has resorted to and related it to the Bush campaign. We know that Kerry is pulling out the stops with his rhetoric because he's farther behind than the polls indicate (which he knows). Since Kobach is being attacked with such a ridiculous charge, it also shows that Moore has reason to fear the loss of his seat.

Has the NAACP donated to Moore's campaign or to any Democratic campaign ever?

What's the polling of Moore vs Kobach right now?

If the Dems really thought Kobach was a raciest, it would be their duty to send Senator Robert (KKK) Byrd, to support his Campaign.

Wonder if Moore has a big fat relative who makes up faux documentaries and consumes one half of the worlds food supply?

A good website that has information about the "racist" attacks on Kobach is kansasmeadowlark.com.

I'm a lawyer in Johnson County. The bar association here loves the man so it's hard to get a good read on Moore.

It defies belief that Moore has beaten the Republican candidates for so many election cycles. But he beat Kline by just a whisker last go-round. And the media not only painted Kline as a right-wing nut job during the election, but they had traction because they had been painting him as just that during his years in the Kansas legislature. I just don't think they can do that to Kobach as successfully. He has such a pristine provenance ~ and they have such a difficult time attacking professors ~ gods in their world ~ that they may trip over their own shoelaces. I may be unrealistic here, but Dennis the Menace has just barely grabbed the magic ring twice in a row. I think Kris has the fire power to beat him. I would be interested to know what has happened to the demographics of the 3rd district during the last 4 years. That could be crucial. Lagamorph would know much more about that than I. (Anything, in fact!) I hope she's listening and can tell us something about it.

This race is a microcosm of the presidential race. A Republican who worked for Ashcroft and takes credit for writing portions of the unconstitutional Patriot Act running against a liberal Democrat who borders on socialist.

Neither is even slightly acceptable but the only acceptable candidate is hidden from view by the media-Joe Bellis in this race and Michael Badnarik in the presidential race.

Why do you say the Patriot Act is unconstitutional. If you love America & think AMerica kicks ass you have NOTHING 2 fear from the Patriot Act.

If you hate America & are a terrorist you have PLENTY 2 fear BUT theres always Iran, Palestine, Germany, France and MANY other countries who would LOVE to have you.

Why do you say the Patriot Act is unconstitutional.

Because it is! It permits searches without probable cause, even though there is a requirement for a faux search warrent. The standards for issuing the warrent are no longer probable cause but just because.

I am not willing to give up basic constitutional protections for perceived safety. That is the very bad deal that Ben Franklin warned us about. "Those that would give up essential liberty for security deserve neither".

I don't understand why so-called conservatives are falling for this and did not throw the bum out (Bush and his cronies).
