Kerry's Social Security Lie Gaining Traction
Various News | 10/18/04

Posted on 10/18/2004 6:07:20 AM PDT by pabianice

Today brings word that the race in FL has become a dead heat, with several commentators noting that Kerry's ad blitz is scaring seniors away from Bush. Kerry has begun a campaign of lies regarding Social Security, frightening seniors with the story that Bush has told private supporters he will begin dismantling Social Security in January, to replace it with a "private system" that will benefit his supporters' investments. The ads reportedly also claim that existing SS payments will be cut as much as 45% by next year.

Unfortunately, FL voters seem to be buying the lie. Fox reports the race in FL is now dead even, when Bush had a 4 point lead as recently as last week. The vile "outing" of Cheney's daughter seems to have had no long-term effect on Kerry. Across the country, the race is again tightening, with Bush's likely electoral votes down to 254.

So... where is the line in campaigning? And why do Republicans bring a Nerf bat to a gun fight?

The race in Florida isn't dead even. Fox is quoting the ONLY poll that shows it that way. It's called making news.

I'm ready to start promoting the possibility that Kerry will legalize drug use. I say this because one of his principal backers, Soros, has this for a goal. Kerry has said nothing to admonish Soros for his dangerous stance toward drug use. Another of his largest private backers, Peter Lewis, also has some connection to drug use.

About a week ago, Michael Savage was talking about one of Kerry's grandfathers being a leader of the cartel responsible for importing opiates into China some 80+ years ago. I don't know, but we seem to have a couple of billionnaires, who favor drug use, bankrolling another billionnaire with some familial association to drug distribution. Just what is Kerrys plan?

The media wants this to be a dead heat so they find a poll that calls it so. Pres Bush is going to spend some more time in Florida and will be blasting Kerry about his scaring senior citizens.

The media is despicable in their reporting in this election and I hope after the election everyone on here remembers how the media was so biased including some folks at Fox News. The only friends we have in the media are talk radio for the most part and a few newspapers. The TV media is a bad joke!

"And why do Republicans bring a Nerf bat to a gun fight?"

I would hardly call the Swift Boat vets a "nerf bat." What the old folks need to be made aware of is that it would take an act of Congress (several perhaps) to privatize any portion of social security. No President can do it through executive order or somehow "rush it through."

It was inevitable that Kerry was going to demagogue Social Security in the final two weeks. That's exactly what Gore did four years ago, Kerry was saving this for now. The question is whether the Bush campaign was savvy enough to anticipate this. We'll find out soon enough.

Yep, and Gore started his rants in black churches about this time as well.

Bush counter to this is to ask who the only person in the race to tax SS was? It was kerry. Kerry is just solidifying his voters...then again, if it is same as 2000, he just needs to switch 255 votes.

Keep in mind that if Kerry runs ads that are blatant, obvious lies, then we can run counter ads that both refute what Kerry says AND nail him as a liar. So this game of lying about Social Security is a desperate high risk tactic by Kerry. He's looking more desperate every day. That comment about Cheney's daughter was an obvious attempt to suppress the Christian vote. If Kerry runs a lot of ads with lies about Social Security, we can run counter ads that will take back at least as many votes as Kerry gained with his ads.

I only heard the last part of it.He did say that the Bush campaign is in states that shoud be in the Kerry column and that will put Kerry on the defensive. The rest of the interview was talking about a report that shows that Kerry has overwhelmingly received more favorable reporting suring the election cycle than Bush has.

Hopefully we do. We need Bush to get onto national TV to "appease concerns" over lies being told to sr.'s in Florida (Social Security) and to youth everywhere (draft). We need to get aggressive and deal with this head on, quickly and very aggressively.

The Repubs have a poor record of effectively rebutting Dem lies. That's part of the problem I see. That it is almost certain Kerry received an other than honorable discharge will never, ever be revealed by the DLP. The biggest fear I have is the Goreization of this election. It is not inconceivable that Dem fraud and suits will hold-up the declaration of a winner past the January 20 deadline. This will throw the election into Congress, which willl declare Bush the winner. After that, I'd expect a mini-civil war to be launched by the Liberals. All this while we have to stay focused upon terrorism.

Unfortunately, those 'blasts' will be heard through the filter of the media bias and will end up sounding like little 'pops'. Bush has to really speak out in very clear language to reassure the elderly in Florida, and do it in a way that the media cannot soft peddle his words.

The Dems try this crap every 4 years, to scare seniors. The Bush camp should run an ad, showing replays of previous Dem candidates and refer to the tactic as Rush does, "the Dems are using their same old play book". They should use "lines" from the last debate to outline that something must be done, as funds will eventually be depleted. Kerry offers no good "PLAN".

Social security investments need a higher yield for long-term solvency, no doubt. One thing I can't figure out (maybe because I'm not an economist) is how to privatize SS without essentially holding it hostate to Wall Street. Let's say SS is privatized (at least partially) and a good part of SS money is invested in the stock market. Then, let's say, legislation is introduced in Congress that Wall Street doesn't like and the stock market drops. The message is clear; pass a law we don't like, and private SS investments take a beating. How do we get around this?

And ABC News thinks that distortion is not central to Kerry's campaign? On just two issues, the draft and social security, lies and distortion have become Kerry's campaign.

Get ready for the big lie from the Democrats. My 95 year old mother is being inundated with letters from Democrats hinting that Bush is going to cut her Social Security. She earlier voted for Bush by absentee ballot. These swindlers are fleecing the older population big time. Some aggressive district attorney needs to file a case against the politicians. Politicians who are committing the despicable crime of fraud against those who can not take care of themselves.

If you believe that the stock market will drop and stay down during your whole working life, put your SS investment into government bonds.

Ed Assner phone harrasment should start any minute now...

Ed Asner using his 'trusted older guy Lou Grant image' to sway seniors

Ed Asner told Seniors that GW Bush was going to 'steal' their Social Security money...
That he was going to throw them all off SS and into the street homeless and penniless

Seniors better wake up quick...GW Bush's word is as good as gold...he is the only hope that SS will stay solvent enough to care for them...

The Dems are famous for raiding SS for other liberal projects...their beloved Commie Jimmy the Peanut a prime example of raiding SS for his socialist projects...giving money to Cuban mental patients and murderers Fidel dumped on us...with Carter's approval...to this day Carter still kisses Fidels butt...

"How many greedy geezers live in Fl., Oh., Pa.?"

I can speak to Florida, having lived here for 10 years now, where it seems the attitude is "As long as I get mine, to hell with everybody else". I read far too many letters to the editor complaining that spending 500 BILLION dollars on prescription drugs just wasn't enough. That somehow Bush shortchanged them. Makes me crazy. Greatest generation?? Maybe some but too many don't look past their own selfish needs to realize what is being done to future generations.
