BAGHDAD Predawn explosions yesterday ripped through five empty Christian churches in the Iraqi capital, ... Thousands of Christians have fled Iraq since the fall of the regime of Saddam Hussein. The church bombings, while claiming no casualties, appeared calculated to intimidate the remaining believers, estimated to number about 800,000.
"It was horrible," said Odet Abdul, 48, who attends one of the bombed churches and lives around the block, adding that she thought she was about to die when she heard the blast. "They want us to leave Iraq; that is the message."
Christians in the capital swept up debris at the five churches, which were attacked within an hour and a half of each other starting about 4:30 a.m.
The Catholic Church of St. George was left a shell, barely standing. Large portions of the 2-foot-thick brick walls had collapsed and a fire consumed the carpets, pews, icons and plaster inside the domed building. A 2-foot-deep hole was found in the foundation directly on the doorstep, possibly where the bomb was planted.
Christian-owned liquor stores and DVD stores have been attacked by fanatical Muslims who oppose the sale of such merchandise.
Nabil Jameel Suleiman, 40, a member of the St. George church, said he and his children were sleeping in an adjoining building when the blast occurred. They were not injured.
He said he planned to clean up the ashes and debris around the battered marble altar so the priest could celebrate Mass there today.
"Just to clarify that we will continue to do the Mass in the church and nothing will affect us," he said. "All Iraqis are threatened, when you go to work, go to school."

Another example of religious tolerance by practicing members of the religion of peace.
This is what the Western world will have to face when its muslim population equals its Christian population.
Where will the atheistic-left be when it's forced to choose between Islam or death?
They will be giving lip service to the Islamo-facsists. Remember "Better Red than dead"?
Story is from 8/16/2004, not 8/18/2004
Wake up, 10/16/2004
Which means that liberal women will have to obey their husbands, wear a burka, stay at home and raise the children, and get beaten at least once a week.
The men will have to pray five times a day, forgo forbidden foods and drink, beat their wives, and live according to the Quran.
There's irony in this scenario, but it would serve liberals right.

Targeting Iraqi Churches & Hospitals!
Another bloody day is in Iraq today and as usual by the barbaric terrorists whose vision unable to go beyond their asses.
About 5 Churches have been targeted by different ways by the groups of the beheadings and kidnappings of Al-Zarqawi and his supporters among the Wahabis.
On the same time the same groups attacked by rockets Ibn Al-Baytar Hospital in Baghdad!
Today's attacks are nothing but indicate the failure of the terrorists and their dirty attitudes.
The same thugs killed the children in Baghdad, bombed Imam Ali Shrine, killed the pilgrimages to Karbala in 2003, and killed many innocents in the name of their God if they got God.
The Iraqis will stay hand in hand, Christians and Muslims and others as one unit. The terrorists will not succeed to divide us.
These terrorists are not even equal to the heels of the old shoes of the civilised Iraqi Christians.

I really doubt if Christians were given much freedom under Saddam Hussein, if any at all, but I may be wrong.
Can anyone confirm what the status of Christian were when Saddam Hussein was in power.
Oh - almost forgot - ROPMA bump!
