"Snakehead found in Lake Michigan." Does not surprise me one bit. A few years back one was found in a lake in Maryland. Instead of quietly dealing with the problem, the snakehead story was big news. Sure enough we now got the little bastards in the Potomac.

Our boat was just taken out of the water for the winter, I think most of the lake's zebra mussels were on our props!

"But back in the 1960s and '70s, some fish farmers down in Arkansas thought it would be a good idea to import Asian carp from China to eat up all the pond scum in their hatcheries."
It was my impression that these fish were the by-product of Asian restaurants raising their own fish. Honest.

Last line:
The Asian carp were never meant for the Great Lakes. In fact, they were never meant for the Great Western Hemisphere. That's why they're called Asian carp. Thank you Dr. Science.

Arkansas USE to have the Clintons, but then we wised up and were able to pawn their slimy butts off on the rest of youse guys. I believe both of these yahoos have chosen to move and live in areas closer to their kind......NY.

Well, I spent a lot of time in Latin America, but the weird thing is, no one spoke it there!

I used to get bored when I was a kid, and wander down to the city water supply and shoot carp with a shotgun...
I never drank the water though, cuz I'd imagine the lead content was unsafe.

as kids we shot them with bow and arrow.
never did low-crawl on my belly while hunting deer, though.

You got that right! The viz in the Great Lakes stinks until you hit that first thermalcline, and poof, it opens right up! Zebra mussels sure keep the water clear. Of course the downside is don't touch anything -- even by accident -- because the sharp little buggers literally carpet everything...

I heard they're a pain. Have you seen any difference in the fishing since they invaded?
Years ago we vacationed on an inland lake that was overrun by crayfish. Guess they mess with the vegetation, which screwed up spawning.

I was just wondering, cuz they used to be in the news around here a lot.
I guess some people think eco systems are mostly static & only man messes things up. I dunno though, I think they're actually pretty dynamic & man is just one of the variables that stir the pot.

This is one ugly fish. No comments on the fish holder. What's the old story about a dog owner looking like his dog. It may transend to fish, too.

I used to hear about them a lot, too, when I spent time at fishing websites. Living in Wisconsin, I see notices at boat launches cautioning you to drain your live well, etc. so as not to let the little buggers hitchhike to other lakes, etc.
