Usually I dig Kristol but he's way off here. At worst, Cheney won the first half by an astounding margin and the second half was a draw. There was no Edwards win, not even on one question.

"I'm only surprised that Cheney didn't turn to Edwards at the end and say, 'And give me the car keys, too".

Great line!

I thought that Kerry beat Bush badly last week and said so here. Tonight, Cheney beat Edwards far worse. This was not close.

Edwards' comments on gay marriage were, as Sully might say, "gobsmackingly stupid."

Oh, I forgot to add: you can get that sole source justification via a FOIA request. I have done so a couple of times myself.

Well, yours was at least the 2nd worst comment to me...I too thought, "how insensitive".

And notice how Edwards finished the "gay marriage" line by switching, again, to another topic? And it was Iraq!!!

I guess he's worried about gay marriage there!

It would be pretty cool if true.

I didn't post it. I sent it to the quick e-mail deal on their campaign website. Call me crazy, but not only did I want to get it to the good guys, I wanted the bad guys to get blindsided.

I kept listening to Edwards yammer on about "the plans" and how they're on the road to fiscal responsibility while they give everything away..and I'm thinking and the money comes from where now? And then he talks about doubling the military and I move on to...oh yeah mean the 78% that can't stand Kerry or the free-loaders you're asking to vote for you that would never put in the hard day's work that a military life actually is? And then he blathered on and on about international assistance AFTER Gwen had already made it clear that Germany and France said heck no...so uh..who may I ask does he plan to ask in? Kerry's buddies from Vietnam?

We are in total agreement. I used the bar as an example of how poorly self regulation within the community of lawyers works.

Interestingly, while self-regulation among lawyers doesn't work very well, it isn't hard to find lawyers willing to sue each other for malpractice if the client is willing to pay the fees. Doesn't help here, though!

What I saw of Cheney tonight makes me glad that I'm one and not someone standing behind a sleazeball like Edwards who would try to exploit Cheney's daughter in the manner he did.

It was Gwen who mentioned it first. It was part of her question. She was trying to demonstrate that Cheney and Bush disagree about gay marriage and a constitutional amendment. What Cheney failed to mention is the fact that the Federal Government must take a stand on this issue to determine who gets benefits such as Social Security. It is the reason why Clinton signed the DOMA. In the Dem primaries, Edwards made a major gaff when talking about the DOMA.

Hey, did anyone notice that Foxnews.com's article has a link to factcheck.com - BIG problem - this link takes you to Georgie Soros' anti Bush website. Of course the real site is Factcheck.org - I hope the VP said the right one.

I thought I heard paper tearing also. Edwards was probably coming up with yet another 'plan' to go with all the others he and Kerry have. Cheney was unfased as usual.

My take on the debates is that it was basically a draw, with perhaps minor lean to the D's. Edwards recited his talking points well, and they were aggressive and on point. Cheney was not as aggressive or forceful as he could have or should have been. He had some good hits, the meeting Edwards for the first time was funny...but he needed to land punches on Kerry not on Edwards. I think there were more than a few missed opportunities. I think he offered a valid defense of the administration, but did not stick to and push the administrations talking points.

You obviously had your mind made up before the debate. Why is it that so many on the right seem to mistake meas spirited nastiness as "staying on message" ?

All Edwards did was confirm the image on Sen Surrender and Gone as a pair of empty suits mugging for the camera and whining about the opposition. Nither Edwards, NOR Kerry, offered any sort of substantive alternative to Bush/Cheney. And the devastating gaffes Kerry made!! Nuke Fuel for the Mullahs? "Global Test" Bilateral talks!

Come ON quite pretending to be something you are not. If you think it "leans towards the dems" you are not even trying to be intellectually honest. This constant habit of certain Freepers to confuse hysteric critisim of their own side for "reasonablness" is just pathetic
